lake washington spiders

During the summer my boat stays on lake washington on a boat lift. I go out two to three times a week and every time i do my boat is covered with huge spiders. I actually have to broom them off and i can never get them all. They crawl up under my cover and take dumps on my vinyl. Does anyone else have this problem,and is there any solution??

I can't wait to hear the solution to the problem of excessive "spider dumps". Not to make light of your situation; I'm just sure this is the first time a thread like this has appeared.

BTW what kind of spiders?

We had similar problem on Sammamish. Do you have a covered boat lift? We did and there were tons of spiders on the underside of the cover. They would crawl down to the cover and there would be webs everywhere. If you have a lift cover go buy a couple cans of spider killer and go nuts on the underside of the cover. If that doesn't stop the problem than I don't know what will. Bottom line is you have to get ride of the spiders whether they are on the lift cover or the dock.

It's a common problem everywhere, try living in the Cali Central Valley! Spray the underside of your lift cover with a product that lasts awhile, one of those thirty day kill jobs. I go to take the boat out on weekends and have to spend 30 minutes cleaning webs and checking for live units spring, summer and fall. Nothing worse than having one run across your leg while driving!

While we're on the subject of pests hanging around our boats, does anyone have a remedy for Bats?
I have tried everything to get rid of them, they live in our boathouse/garage when we're not there and it reeks of batshat whenever I open up the doors. I keep the boat covered, but the smell, and mess all over is nasty

Star brite makes a spider repellent. They are the same company that makes one of the best hull cleaning products out. That did the trick for me. Just spray down the cover once a month.

Chris, are the bats living in there because you have spiders or other bugs living in the boathouse?

Brett, no spiders or other bugs, but maybe that's because the bats eat them all!

Hehe, the bats are probably taking care of any spider/bug problem he might have.

Like the others suggested, bug spray the dock, beach, etc. Pick your favorite brand. Interesting that Starbrite has one. They make great hull cleaner so why not?!

Bugs are the biggest reason to get a dark colored boat cover that goes down over all the vents in your boat..... keeps''em OUT! And if they get in, then their not gonna be alive for long!

Bug spray and also think about lighting.

Lights at night attract bugs which attract spiders.

If there are any unnecessary lights, you should turn them off.

Im not sure what kinda spiders but they do get big.

First it takes 20 minutes to chase them off the boat, then if its a late night on the lake the sneaky ones start dive bombing you from the tower. Again thanks for the help.

Mine is on a lift as well. I spray this product once a month and keeps them down considerably. spider s*it is the worst to try and clean up.

One more suggestion. Move the boat out from under the canopy & spray under there too. Should keep them from building webs over your boat & then crappin all over it.

Chris i live along the Toulemne River where there's a healthy bat population and during the late spring through early fall i watch the bats swooping through the light in the evenings eating skeeters and anything else small that flys. Thy're nice to have around but yeah they can be a pain too, don't know what you can do about it though.

I also had to find a solution for the crazy spider problem on Sammamish. Because I am such a little girl when it comes to spiders I went for the full strength insecticide. It’s called CY-KICK CS and you can purchase it at AAA Pest Control in Kent. Or online at the same place Adam suggested: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/cykick-cs-p-250.html. This stuff works. I like it over anything else because its concentrate so you only mix up what you need. So I get one of these http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/chapin-gallon-pump-sprayer-20000-p-65.html and spray down the boat cover about every 1.5 months. Since you have a lift cover I would spray that whole thing down, and also spray your actual boat cover. I have a Rankin cover and have never seen any staining or other damage due to this spray.

This stuff is so good even with the rain it still keeps them out. And after a month the spiders will start to reappear reminding you it’s time to spray again…and they go away. It also helps keep the little flying nats out from under your cover – which is a problem on my end of the lake but I’m not sure if it is on Lake Wa.

We have the same stuff dude, spider dumps all over both our donzi's and the epic. Ours stay in maydenbauer yacht club which is undercover. Im not suer if they crawl on the boat I think they deploy from the ceiling and their drop zone is my boats. It really ticks me off.
