Hey guys- I am working on my tower today installing it. The tower came with 3x5 inch backer plates to spread the stress over a larger area. Do you think it would be necessary to add plywood of aluminum sheets.

Also, it tried putting the rope on the tow point on the tower. Usually when I use ropes I loop it on the tow point, then twist and put another loop, sort of like a rubber band. When I tried to do this on the tower, only one loop could fit. Should I try the method in this video?

Thanks

The method shown in that video is the most commonly used.

Whether additional backing is required depends on the thickness and strength of the attachment points to the cap. You can get away with a larger plate on the underside to spread the load but glassing in some backing is never a bad idea. Coosa or Starboard would be ideal, but wood will last just about forever since it's a dry area.

For the tow line, either way is fine depending on how big the loop is.

I think you'll be totally fine with the 3 x 5 plates. My tower was missing a plate on 1 of the 4 legs (it was just attached to fiberglass) and I didn't notice it for nearly a decade. I guess it came from the factory like that. The backing plates that came with the other ones are no larger than 3 x 5 and they've been fine since 1999. The one I made to replace the missing one is about 3 x 3 and has been fine for years.
