It happened to my buddy's Nautique. It broke right where the threads stopped for the prop nut. He thinks that the area was weakened by a prop strike, and eventually just broke.

nautique snapped a shaft off and lost prop, we did not even feel anything...we thought the prop fell off til we felt the jagged break, it broke right at the hub of the prop...we do not know if we hit anything, it was in a place where its 10-15 feet deep that we have been through lots of times, we felt no impact just lost power.

how much did this cost to fix? I think I had the same thing happen to me
