Looking to get a set of tower speakers for a Illusion XS tower. We do not need anything special, but at the same do not want to waste money on speakers that aren't clear at all. How much would it be for something reasonable? Not only the price for the speakers, but an amp (I assume one is needed?) and maybe a volume control.

Do you want to hear them clearly at wakeboard distance or is surf/party/inboat all you care about?

Wakeboard would be nice but in reality all we need is Wakesurf distance.

Not really sure....hoping this would help me get an idea. Is around 300$ for the speakers, 300$ for the amp and 150$ for the volume control reasonable?

I did a quick search on ebay....how bad would the quality be on these?

Ive heard the infinity setup on a handful of towers. To take a line from Forest Gump "thats all i have got to say about that".

I have seen the Cadence in person, but it was not an active display. They reminded me of the MTX marine audio. Given a choice between a pair of 6.5" and 8" for a surf setup, the 8" would be the logical choice on surface area alone.

What volume control are you looking at for $150? For half of that, you can get the Kicker ZXM-RLC dual zone volume control with 9V per chnl line level.

Are you looking to not mount the speakers in the factory location, but instead locate them on the cross hoop?

A single pair of 8" HLCDs will give you the wake range projecting and the right ones will also yield nice near-field sound quality for surfing. This would probably exceed your budget though.

No particular volume control...just a random guess of what I would need to spend- but that's great that I could get a kicker volume control for less. And I would rather mount them on the side in the factory location, but if it would be noticeably cheaper to get ones that just go on the top cross bar that would be fine.

Here is an old video of the Kicker KMT6 Tower Speakers I had on my Yamaha. When properly matched they worked really well and very inexpensive. I had about $1000 in that system in the video & it was all new equipment.

Look at the other thread about the Rockford Fosgate tower speakers. They have an 8" tower speaker setup for like $325 or something. I would go with something like that if sound while surfing is the most important thing.
