After driving the Axis A22, which seems to be a excellent boat if you get some options with it, and asking the malibu dealer where I am from at there on the water boat show questions about the boat they told me that Axis is coming out with a 20 ft boat. They said the boat should look just like the a22 but a little cheaper. The A22 goes for arond 45-50k with some options is what I and heard and read and they were thinking the A20 should be under 40k with some options. I wondering if anyone has seen any other info on it besides this http://axiswakeboardboat.com/axis-a-20/

Honestly, I wish more companies would explore smaller boats. 19 foot, 20 foot, heck even a decent 18 footer. Some of us just dont have the room for these bigger boats. Everything small is usually ski-specific.

An A-20 sounds interesting.

I wish I was allowed to spill be beans, but i'm not. Keep your eyes pealed! This boat is gonna rock! No corners are being cut!

Come on Ross tell us!!! I email axis with some questions and they hadn't email me back yet. What the guys at the dealership were telling me it should look like the A22

Can you tell us what hull design? Hopefully not the VTX, not a fan and I own a malibu.

Sorry to hijack but, the rumor is that Tige will be redesigning the 20V to make a 20' picklefork.

Tige huh. So what is this one going to be ? The RZ1? I doubt it will have as low of a price tag as the a-20. I'm really intersted in this new axis. Can you at least tell us when we'll be getting the info on it?
Old     (mryan318)      Join Date: Jul 2009       05-25-2010, 6:46 PM Reply
Hull design of the A-22 after talking to Matt Bishop at Axis is a combination of a couple of the Malibu hulls so I'm guess the A-20 is the most likely the same kind of thing

If it's anything like the 22, it will be a damn nice boat! Especialy with the same motor in it...

Both companies seem to be going after the X2 customer. Not a bad idea for people looking for boats 10 to 20k less than what it seems a brand new X2 goes for these days. For me I like to keep my boat in my garage so staying in that 20-21ft range is perfect. Also more people can afford boats in the upper 30s to lower 40's. Its a bigger market and both companies are killing it right now with their new boats. Look forward to riding in both.

I really wish someone would come out with a 20footer brand new out the door for 35ish give or take depending on the options you add on... add in a new boat warranty and all that jazz... I would serious look at any boat in this price range... Most people can't justify 45k+ on a boat when you don't get to use it ALL the time especially here in IL and farther up north
Old     (ajholt7)      Join Date: Apr 2009       05-28-2010, 7:59 AM Reply
I didn't give much more than that for my Tige 20V brand new. I am sure the price will go up with the redesign, though.

if they came out with a A20 it WOULD be my next boat.
ive got a small crew, small budget, and a small tow vehicle.
i prefer the 20 footers.

the smaller and lighter boat, would also allow the same ballast weight to sink it lower than the 22.

not many boats in the 35,000 price range any more we bought our falcon new last summer for 30,000 as a brand new dealer repo with full warranty and 0hrs came with a 330hp black scorpion, ballast, heat, bimini and perfect pass.We could not be happier with the boat it is 20'8" long and has a 102" beam the free board is deep and after all my mods the wake is huge think we are into it for a total of 37,000 after doing the stereo, custom ballast, exhaust, switchblade, underwater lights, tower lights, docking lights, dual batteries, charger, racks, window tint and interior led's.the interior seems to have more room than most bigger boats.length was top of my list when shopping here are a couple pics if you are looking for a boat under 21' the falcon is worth taking a look at there are still some good deals out there

In some of these mocked up pictures of the axis boats, I cant help but think they look like the MB tomcat....
but the actual pictures make them look sick.

For tige, I guess it would be the RZ1 and im pretty sure they will keep the 20V cause there is still a market for it. But the 20 foot picklefork will compete with the X-2

I was told the pricing on the A22 is going up next year and that the A20 is going to be priced where the current A22 is priced. I hope this is not the case. That kind of thing would seem to go totally against the whole ideology of Axis.

Moomba Outback V is exactly what you are looking for. Plus it has one of the best surf waves on the market - especially for a 20 footer.

i hope the price doesn't go up.... they will be competing with everyone else if they do that.... if its more price point they could be in a league of their own!! 35kish for a brand new 20ft boat (pretty much loaded) needs to happen!!!

I have talk to Matt Bishop a few weeks ago and he gave me alot of info on the A-22 but wouldn't let me anything about the A-20. Do you know when they will be releasing info on the A-20?

There was an A20 in Charleston TN last Sunday that pulled several divisions of the "Board for a Cure" wakeboard tournament. There are pictures on facebook of riders behind the boat. Not sure if there are any boat pictures.

Do you guys wanting or having 20ft boats use them in rivers, small lakes, or private lakes? There's no way I'd have a 20ft anything on the lake I use because there's lots of open water and 2ft wind blown waves are common...sometimes 3ft. That low freeboard just scares me.

My free board is no different than the VLX on my VTX, and I'd assume the same will be true the A20 vs the A22. All in all Malibus ride low, but my boat handles 2-3 foot swells as well as can be expected for a malibu

My Tige 20V does not have a low freeboard. It handles big lakes like a dream.

emailed my local dealership and got allitle info

"Thanks for your interest in AXIS. There are a few new things for 2011. A ski pylon is optional, better fitting cover, new cruise control programming, larger snap out carpet, better access to storage areas in bow and a few others. One of the big differences is the engines. After 12/31/10 no one will be able to order the AXIS without catalytic converters on the engine. They have been pretty much std. equipment on Wakesetters since ’07, but we have been resistant to put them on the Axis and Malibu Rides due to price. The cats on the motors will increase the cost by about $1500. So, apples to apples a fall/winter boat will be about $1500 cheaper than a late winter spring boat. No difference in horsepower, but cleaner emissions and a little better fuel economy with the cat motor. If you want to save $1500 then order before 12/31!

All the Malibu exterior colors are available on the Axis line for 2011.

The A20 is pretty simple. It is an Axis-ized Malibu VTX Wakesetter. The hull is similar if not identical to the VTX and it is mated to the Axis deck. A scaled down version of the A22. All the same features are there with just 100lbs less factory ballast than the A22. Can’t wait to see it. It will be about $4k price difference between the two boats I’m told. We’ll see."

the optional ski pylon is a joke in my book. You take out the middle cup holder on the back sun pad and screw in the ski pylon.

That's a 2011 A-22 actually. It's Adam's boat and the graphic is a one off. I got a chance to ride behind the new A-20 a month or so ago. The ballast were not completely full but the wake was nice. If you are in the market for a 20 ft. boat by all means check it out.

I myself can't deal with less than 21.5 feet, but like I said if you are in the market for a 20 ft. boat go out and test drive/ride one.

nice boat i don't care for the graphics or the lack of side windshield. but other than that it has a nice tower and good clean lines. colors can be changed but i don't care for the windshield. just my 2 cents.

O OK. shoot. thought it was a spy shot.
i love the windsheild. so practical. and looks good too. and i prefer small boats.
smaller hull + same ballast = bigger wake. simple physics.

I bought our Axis in late feb so we did some riding in the cooler parts of the year. The only time I noticed the air was when there was a cool breeze. Chop isn't an issue, I have ran the boat on a sat in havasu and no water got in the boat.

The windshield is very functional. I can talk to riders and dock the boat by myself without having to leave the driver seat. I wasn't a huge fan of the window at first but it has grown on me.

The first picture Corey posted is a 2010 A-22(All black with the word Axis at in angle) which is Adam Mccall demo boat I rode in last weekend at there Demo Day in Minnesota. The black and teal is a factory color you could order. They guys at MNInboard (The Malibu and Axis dealer here is MN) said they have a a-22 coming in the same color scheme

Ed and Bruizza, that transom seat is also on the 2011 A22. A while back I sent a list of minor "issues" to Matt Bishop, and virtually every one of them is solved in the 2011 design. Matt and Adam are really going the extra mile to make sure that Axis keeps getting better while still keeping the cost down.

I figured it was Joe. Unfortunately it will be a while before we upgrade from the one we just bought. A transom seat obviously wasn't a deal breaker but it would be nice to have.

just got the first round numbers back from the dealership on building me a 2011 A20 to order.
with all the options i wanted (mild) it was 48Gs, after freight and rigging just under 50Gs

a bit higher than i need. maybe they take crotch rockets and camaros in for trade too, not just the boat

in the big picture, thats a killer price for a sick boat. no doubt. great market. just a bit high for me personally financially.
not giving up though. i still have this winter of payments on the moomba. and come spring alot can change. im still gonna give it a go for sure.

I mentioned before that I was told the pricing on the A20 is going to be where the A22 is now and the A22 is going up. Cory's post seems to be somewhat confirming that. What options were included in that Cory if you don't mind me asking?

-tricked out gel blue w/black accents
-swivel drivers seat
-carpet
-stereo package 1 (head unit, 6 speakers, 1 amp)
-PnP ballast
-wedge
-bimini
-fixed board racks
-boat cover
-high alt. prop
-pop up cleats
-depth gauge
-flip up drivers seat
-single axle standard trailer
-catalytic converters (forced after 12/31 $1650 )

A boat like that should come with tandem axle trailer
Old     (bruizza)      Join Date: May 2009       07-30-2010, 2:18 PM Reply
we had all those options on ours except we have the upgraded tatami mat carpet, stereo package 2, the raptor 400 engine which is a $5000 upgrade, chillax seats, deck trac, tower mirror, and a tandem axle trailer and sticker was only 55k on it. So I definitely believe they are raising the price on the A22 and bringing the A20 in at the current A22 pricing.

I hope everything works out for you over the winter and into next spring and you can get the A20 Cory. I freaking love our A22 and from reading most of your posts/threads it seems like the A20 is the perfect boat for you.

AJ it was a $650 option to add the extra axle. i chose not too as it the same weight as my moomba thats on a single.

bruizza. he said there was a 4-6% increase in price this year. plus the additional $1650 for manditory cats. at the end of the last email he also mentioned they had a 2010 A22 instock for 48. 2k cheaper than the A20.....

thanks for the encouragement man.

Cory

Got our 2010 Fully Loaded (every option possible, less Raptor/Cats) including Axis trailer guide pads, spare high alt. prop - out the door cost was $56k total (incld. tax/lic/doc). The dealer is no longer a dealer though? weird...

48k for those options if thats list price I think thats high to me. If they jack the price on the A22 it will defeat the entire purpose of the project and to me a huge disappointed. I think that A20 looks awesome but at 50k by the time you pay tax tag and title its not worth it. Just my opinion which means nothing but then again I am a consumer and have a wakeboat.

dig the blue trailer. these boats always look like they are leaning way forward on the trailer. guess its just the boat?

If you wait until fall of 2011, you could probably save several thousands on the A20. But a fully loaded A20 with a cat. converter for 48K doesn't seem too out of line.

Speaking of a 4650 increase in boat prices in 1 year...Ive asked before but Ill ask again, is anyone else alarmed at the rate of the increase in wakeboat pricing? I understand inflation, but from what I remember, a VLX cost low to mid 40s in the early 2000s, we got our 05 for low 50s, now they are well into the 60s maybe even 70k. thats a 50% increase in price in a decade or less. I dont think cars have seen that kind of jump, maybe Im wrong. Just seems that wakeboard boats are going up by thousands every year and are pricing themselves out of the market. What gives?

Not out of line if that is list price find it funny that boats go up in price while most things I am seeing fall. So its not the cost of labor its not the cost of fiberglass but if you can get it raise the price. Capitalism!!! I own my own company and wish I could get a 6% increase every year on the products we sell. I would own a brand new A22 or BU VLX.

Heres some pics of the A20 interior and a wake pic too. (From Great Wakes Boating in Lenoir City, Tn) Thought i'd put it out there so people had better view of it and see the layout. Its pretty similiar, there are some differences. It looks like there is a cooler hideout behind the drivers seat which in the A22 is open layout, this is closed. The seat in the back for loading/unloading is new too. Sub location changed to in the floor it looks like and the door opens up vs sideways. Not sure if this was changed on the A22 as well but ill follow up on that too.
Also a new video was posted for it as well

I am not sure what I think about the new sub location. I can see a lot of stuff we store in that compartment rolling into the sub.

Axis has really stepped up with the 2011's. They've really refined their already great design.
