Budget around $25k. I'm ok with a direct drive. I had a sanger v210 and found the maintenance was much more time consuming vs. my previous (mc prostar 190) plus the prices on parts for the damn mercruiser black scorpion were through the roof. I have in-laws that ski and I wakeboard but don't need wakes that result in knee-crushing landings.

In my price range I see a lot of 2006-2008 Moomba Outbacks (direct drive) and 2005-2006 Centurion T5s (direct drive). Is there any significant difference in the quality of these boats? I know I'm fishing in the bottom of the barrel but I'm concerned about things like hull quality and interior like upholstery. I looked at a Moomba in person and it seemed nice. The upholstery seemed significantly thinner than on my Sanger but much better than the old MC I had (it was a 1989 and the upholstery was old/thrashed).

I'm looking at low-hour boats in great shape because I don't want to have to do a lot of work.

Do prices go up or down as it gets closer to Spring? Seems like they should go up but at the same time down because there might be more boats being listed.

Thanks!

Prices always go up in the spring. Has nothing to do with more boats for sale. Has to do with boating season. People want to buy when they can use a boat. They expect a significant discount to motivate them in the fall to buy a boat to store it for 6 months.

Not that there is much listed on CL lately but I would also keep an eye out up here north of the border. With our crappy dollar bringing a boat down may be a good option.

I've seen a few listed that are in Canada. Do you know what the procedure is for importing it into the US? I searched a bit but it looked complicated.

Saber - I am in Portland and I know of a pristine low hour 2001 Xstar that is loaded up. Same as the newer X1 and X2's. The Pro-star 205V. Really really really clean... Drop me an email if interested and I can get you details. It is not listed yet, but it will be tomorrow...

I just bought a boat in Canada last month. You will need to get a day permit through an insurance company up there. It is like our registration. Make sure you have a bill of sale with the value of the boat and the trailer listed out. And most important. Find the emission tag on the motor before getting to customs. They will not let it go through without physically seeing it. We were stuck for over an hour. Turns out it was on the oil pan.
