I haven't shot any wakeboarding yet because I want to make sure I don't lose my new 3D Robotics Solo drone in the water, but I thought I'd share this here. I think I'm finally confident enough to shoot some wakeboarding, so hopefully I'll have another edit done this fall.

Good stuff. I have a friend that came out and did a drone video of me, but the only thing I've got back from him so far is one screen shot!

I notice that most drone videos of wakeboarding are too far away. I guess I'll find out how hard it is to get close!

I like some shots of seeing rider and boat, but its gotta be scary getting the drone closer and closer to the water.

Dave, does that drone have a "follow me" feature?

Yes, it does have a follow me feature, but I believe it follows the phone (which is what you use for your screen). If my understanding is correct, I could have it follow a rider automatically as long as they have my phone on them while I sit in the boat with the controller. I will have to confirm this before I go trying it out!

I find the fallow me is to far away, works good, I'm sure you can keep the phone in the boat and adjust the camera angle to get the shot your after. I've been doing drone shooting for a month or so, start by shooting wake surfing it's slow and easy to learn what works, wake boarding is harder due to the speed, however I'm not using follow me I want to get the shots I'm after not what the drone wants. I fly from the boat, have a buddy hold to launch and than catch on landing. Once you get over the fear it's a blast, here are a few wake surf shots from this weekend.

Can't you adjust how closely it follows?

You can to a certain degree, but most drone make you stay back 50 feet from what I understand, that's why I fly it myself.. And I can take different angle ect
