One day soon, hopefully, both parties will wake up and see what a problem the national debt is, but it probably won't be until the dollar is worthless, bread is $50 a loaf, and the countries that hold our bonds threaten to cash them. No, the US is too concerned about who gets to go to what bathroom to worry about such a simple problem as being over 19 trillion in debt. Even though what the Saudis are trying to do probably won't happen, just think if someone makes China mad or they need money. http://www.cnbc.com/2016/04/20/saudi...estion-it.html

This is why I am voting for Trump. He's going to make everyone else pay for it, and make me get so used to winning that I get sick of winning.

I'm already sick of winning in anticipation.

You guys got it all wrong!! Only way to get out of debt is spend more money!!! We need free collage and programs that give away more entitlements. And don't worry about the borders. No need to enforce them people will only come into this county in a legal and orderly manner.i mean with all this free stuff who would want to come here anyways . Jen Bush said "they come here as a act of love" we also need to expand Governent. Bigger!!! More Governent employees because we all know the Governent make us tons of cash and get things done!

Merica!

I for one have never paid for a collage, nor do I intend to.

Grant I didn't know that you were in favor of fraud waste and abuse like every single one of our current politicians. If we just get rid of that like Trump says, and mexico pays for the wall, like Trump says, Trump is going to bring the national debt to zero in eight years! With no pain! He said so, so it must be true.

But you short sighted people... once you get your collage, then you're going to want the government to pay for your paper mache too.

Who is the money owed to other than China? That's the real question. Don't you think it's fishy that we keep racking up more and more debt? Who's making money off of that? Somebody sure is heck is!

According to Forbes, we do, mostly:

I meant specifically like what entities? Do we just owe ourselves or are there banks or funds that we "borrowed" the money from?

Financial institutions buy a lot of it to park excess liquidity. Rates suck but its better than parking it at the fed.

I don't think China has to get mad for a SHTF situation. I'm concerned that if they just stop buying what we auction off every week it could drastically affect rates and the dollar.

2 percent interest (which I am not saying is the rate we are paying, just using a figure) on a trillion dollars is 20 billion dollars. A big chunk of that debt is interest.

Too bad that interest money couldn't be spent here.
