Hi All.

Went out surfing today. My friend and I are getting good enough now to lose the rope. But I am doing much better than he is. My question is would the weight of the surfer make a difference in how well the wave pushes?? Would a heavier surfer require a bigger wake? He is 205lbs and I'm 185lbs. We're both riding the same board. He thinks that it's easier for me because I'm lighter??

Thank you

I am definitley not an expert but yes it does matter. The board also matters a lot, probably more than the wave. A good wave is a good wave and you both should be able to surf it. If the board he is using is not big enough/buoyant enough the it would take a wave with a lot more "push" for him to surf ropeless.

What board are you using? There is a pretty big weight spread between you two. Probably will not be able to effectively use the same board.

My own weight has fluctuated between 185 and 205 over the last few years and I can tell you weight does make a big difference in how easy it is to stay in the pocket.
