So family wants to trade in a new runabout that we have been using the last 2 summers and move over to a v-drive so we can surf. Don't have any friends who surf and never tried it but looks more fun than pulling a tube so why not. Dealer has two boats in our price range and trying to decide between the two.

Option 1: '06 Malibu 23lsv w/ diamond hull, Indmar 383 engine w/ 140hrs, all options and factory ballast, Illusion XS tower, power wedge, etc.

Option 2: '07 Supra Launch 24ssv, Monsoon 340 w/ 430hrs, all options and factoy ballast, upgraded sound system, etc.

Hoping to take them for a test ride next week but just wondering which would be the preferred for a family of new surfers. From reading it sounds like the Supra will do better in rough water but is harder to weight for surfing. Have some actuators from a previous boats trim tabs so am already looking at installing a ghetto surf gate.

Thoughts?

Those older Malibu LSVs with the diamond hull work great for surfing. The shape is really good.
My dad has an 02 LSV with the diamond hull and it works so well we used it for the Victoria Wakesurf catalog shoot last year.

Check out themalibucrew.com
The guys there know the boats well

I had an 06 LSV.. it was a fantastic boat. Those were REALLY good years for Malibu.
