I'm a fairly inexperienced boat owner. I have a 1997 mb boss 190. The bilge stopped working. It seems the bilge is under the floor up towards the bow in a tough spot to access. It ports out on the starboard side in front of the driver.

Do I have to pull the floor out to access? If I do have to pull the floor how do you even do that? Seems like something that commonly needs replacing there would be better access. Would it be easier to install a new one in a better location and some how run a new hose to the same port in front of the driver?

Anybody with more experience than me w this model? I don't have the owners manual and have come up empty searching for an online version.

Thanks!

That may be a vent for the gas tank. Bilge pumps are usually more aft toward the back of the boat. Should be visible and accessible either under engine cover or through a service access in the floor. Any seats in the back? Pull them out and look around.

For a 97, it's unlikely a fuel vent would be located forward. To the OP, are you sure the pump isn't accessible through the doghouse? Most direct drive's have the bilge pump just in front of the engine in the vicinity of the center drain plug. If it is truly farther up, you may have access through a removable panel through the cockpit or from the storage area under the spotter seats.

If it is crazy hard to access, I'd relocate it to the front of the doghouse area, just extend the existing hose, or run a new one up to the through hole and same thing with the wiring.

I always wondered why the bilge pumps where in the middle of the boats. To me it makes way more sense to put one as far back as possible so when you are wake boarding or skiing you can hit the switch and drain everything but about a cup of water from the bilge. With the center mounted pump there can still be a couple gallons spread out on the bottom of the boat that won't get sucked up by the pump.
