Hey everyone,

I am currently running an OJ 13.7x15.5. I am getting some gel coat burn because there isn't enough clearance under the hull. Also, I am running at 5000' elevation and typically have a pretty loaded boat. I have the 6.2l Black Scorpion engine. Hoping to get better performance. I don't need high speed but would love good low end torque.

Any Suggestions?

I have the same boat.....didn't think you could go much over a 13" diameter prop. I'm running an acme 517 ( 13 X 16 ) which does pretty well. Theres an ACME 537 ( 13.5 x 16 ) for sale on here in the classifieds. Does that prop other than the burn do ok? Heres a chart with all the ACME props available.
http://www.acmemarine.com/prop-list_ski-boat.php Looks like the 1645 might be a good one for you.

It seems to do ok. I probably wouldn't be changing it out if it weren't for the burn. I have been looking at a 1643 but I am wondering how much I would gain in going down from a 15.5 pitch to a 14.25.

You are down over 20% power at that elevation so a quick guide would be to run 20% less pitch than stock. If stock is 17.5" pitch then drop 3.5" of pitch to 14". You're just looking for torque multiplication to get the power back. At that pitch a 4 blade should be fine and a 3 blade is okay, also. You need enough clearance from the hull or you lose efficiency as well as gel coat. Some prop shops will let you exchange a new prop for another if it does not suit you well. Ask about that.

Know you max speed and RPM accurately to evaluate props. Do this loaded normally and loaded light.

Thanks for the help! I am leaning towards the Acme 1643. Its a 13.13x14.25. I am hoping that gives me enough hull clearance to eliminate the burn I am getting. Right now I have about a half an inch of clearance with the 13.7 so I would think that the 13.13 would be enough.
