I am installing a Clarion ESQ746 equalizer to replace my head unit. I will use a RCA to 3.5mm cable connected to an iphone to control the music going forward. My current setup is a amp to power the tower speakers, an amp to power the boat speakers and a powered subwoofer. I have a dash stereo on/off switch. The question I have is how to wire this setup. The RCAs are pretty self explanatory but I am confused by the remote turn ons for the amp and the equalizer. I am an absolute stereo novice so the more basic the explanation the better. I will be installing the equalizer in the location of the current head unit to avoid running a bunch more wires. The head unit has four wires connected to it currently one black (ground), one red (power), one blue and white (?) and one white and black (?). Presumably one is the remote turn on for the amps? How would I wire this up? Do i need to run another wire from the dash switch? Where to? Thanks in advance!

On my Clarion I just tap into the deck wiring for my power (red) ground (black) and remote turn on (blue).

Do you already have the amps installed?

Yes the amps are already installed and working. Sounds like your setup is a little different in that you have both the head unit and the equalizer. In mine I will only have the equalizer.

I'm not using the head unit. I just used the power , ground and remote from the head unit wiring. The amps already have remote power going to them you just need to hook the RCA's to the eq and you should be good to go.

Thanks! So your amps receive their remote turn on from the dash switch I presume? Not sure how mine are wired...will need to check. Any idea what the fourth wire coming into the head unit is for? Thanks!

The yellow wire is constant 12 v for memory on a head unit...

You are correct the wire is yellow and not white and black as I originally remembered and posted. So in my application I can ignore the yellow wire?
