This may only apply to a small number of individuals but thought I would at least pose the question. My floating dock is on an Army Corp controlled lake with access via a gravel community access road a 5 min walk from my primary residence. As part of my policy renewal I inquired if any damages would be covered under 'other structures' as part of my homeowners policy [should a tree fall] but they told me that while I am protected under liability coverage, any damage would not. When I inquired further as to whether a separate policy could be taken out on the dock they told me none of their partners offered such a program. Has anyone been able to take out a policy to protect their investments with a similar situation? When I pressed the insurance company that having a bill of sale for the dock couldn't that also fall under personal property, the agent still wouldn't bite.

I can't help but think spending 80k+ on a new floating aluminum dock without insurance would be a tough pill to swallow when writing that check if a tree fell on it later. I would think that with a lot of the lakes here in GA/southeast controlled by the CORPS, even if your dock backed up to a lakefront house, because you are technically leasing a spot on 'their' land no dock would ever be covered in the event of damage. Obviously the boat is covered under the marine policy regardless. Anyone inquired or had the unfortunate instance that this happened to them and can report results?

If his lake is anything like our Core lake, getting dock permits for private use is next to impossible so the existing docks go for $$$

Allatoona lake only has about a 1000 dock permits so now they are claiming that the value of a permit is about $100k in value. Lake Lanier which is northeast of Atlanta which is 3x the size of my lake, has 11,000 permits so the value is much less. When I purchased my dock used, the original dock builder was the one who orchestrated the sale and apparently my dock was built for around $65k at the time. My issue falls under that my dock is no longer made so if a tree were to fall and destroy the railing at minimum, I'd have to replace 20x28 worth of aluminum railing if I want it to match. Hence the desire to have insurance.

I'm on a main channel so after spending $1k on repairs, $500 to replace a float, I spent $3500 on pole anchors to survive the beating I take from wally's at full throttle 30 ft off the dock. I'm getting a Hyrdohoist 6000# shallow water lift to the tune of $9k to future proof for the day I buy one of these new monstrosities boat manufacturers are putting out nowadays. I'll have spent more to purchase and update my dock then how much I spent to buy my Moomba LSV.

you should be able to amend your policy to include it. other structures is where I would think should go as well, you can't increase the value of structures and pay slightly more for it?

Yes welcome to Reality. Here in Ca a Cement dock you can have 60-80K into no problem A nice aluminum Gangway can set you back 10k. Add a overhang or Canopy 10-20 K no problem. Add power and Water and a Lift and permits and Pilings to secure it as well as a land attachment (landing) you can 200K into a dock!
