I drove down to the closest Mastercraft dealer today to demo an X2. God I loved it, it's leaps and bounds a better boat for me than my 205v. I didn't really get a chance to board behind it because the water was so rough but the little I did was nice. The wake wasn't nearly as big as my weighted 205 but that can be fixed. They offered me a really good price for trade and have an 08 demo in stock that I'm thinking about.

I should have stayed home today lol.

just install fly high bags and you will be good to go. in my opinion the best 20ft wakeboard boat out there.

I didn't like how the steering on those is to tight. It takes 2 hands to steer the boat in a turn.

Just picked mine up like 5 weeks ago. Still trying to get it weighted right to get rid of the wash but love the ride.

I have been told that building a great wake on the X2 is difficult.

I love my 08 X2. The wake has a good shape with stock ballast but is not big at all. I added the fly high sacs and it is great. If you have the sacs full and a boat load of people alot you may want to be sure it has the attitude plate to help getting out of the hole, even with the mcx. You should be able to get a killer deal on an 08 now. I got a great deal on my 08 in november.

I love my X2. I have found that mine likes a lot of weight up front or the toe side wake gets washy. I would say that if you are getting a good offer for your trade, do it. Thats what sealed it for me cause in this market you are lucky to even find a dealer willing to do a trade.

What other new boats have you driven to compare?
I see your a MC guy was just wondering if you have tried other model MC or any other brands. Now way I would buy without trying out a few options. Good Luck In you search.

We drove a V-RIDE last year but thats it. I'd really like to stay at a 20' boat and I'm not sure you can beat the space of the X2.

If you'd like to give me a recommendation just throw it out.

Malibu VTX is a nice 20' boat and has a nice wake.

Should aslo look into Nautique 210 much cheaper than X2
Old     (dohboy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-23-2009, 7:39 PM Reply
When I was looking I looked at several brands. The Malibus aren't 20 feet after you add in the wedge and all pricing right now is very negotiable on all brands. I picked up the X2 for less then I could have gotten a Nautique. That might be due to dealer inventory volumes though. There were only three Nautis at the dealer and the Mastercraft dealer had like two dozen X2's. Also looked at Supras and MB's. The MB's and the X2 fit in my garage. That was huge for me in the decision process. I would look around and test all the boats your thinking about weighted and unweighted as some handle way differently weighted. All the brands are nice you just need to find the one for you and your requirements.

I know what you meant though about you should have stayed home. My wife just about fell asleep in the bow of the X2 during the test with how smooth it handled chop. And she wanted to hook it to our truck and take it that night.

how does the wedge add length? ^^
Old     (dohboy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-23-2009, 9:34 PM Reply
It is attached to the back of a 20' boat and adds about 6" to the length. Making a 20' boat more like 21' on the trailer with the tongue swung in. The X2 isn't 20' on the trailer either. The trailer is extended well past the front of the boat then the swing away is added. The pickle fork is so wide that to prevent vehicle to boat contact in a jack knife situation the trailer must extend far.

Take a tape measure with you to measure real length on the trailer or better yet have the dealer drive it to your place and confirm it will really fit.

I love my X2! With the added fly high ballast you will not wish for a bigger wake unless you are on the pro tour. There are lots of great boats out there but I don't see how you can go wrong with the X2.

With the swing away and the platform off, the boat & trailer measures 20'9". That should fit in almost everyones garage. Good luck with resisting the urge to buy!

If a 210 fits I would get that before and X2

I've driven X2's, and I really like the look of that boat..... But, you should also test drive a VTX..... Out of all the V-drives I've ever driven, it handles the best.

I agree if it comes to wake performance the 210 has the better stock wake. I do love the X2 as well I am an MC owner that does not wear goggles.

THIS IS TRUE!! I have heard this from many people. A friend with the FLY HIGH ballast says the same.

But if you like it then buy it.

Love the layout and creature comforts of the X2,,,,,but would say the wake will not be any where close to what you can get out of most other 20 - 21 foot boats, like a Nauti210, Supra21v, or X1(205V). Actually it has once of the best slalom wakes I've seen for a v-drive.
Old     (jaybee)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-24-2009, 10:03 AM Reply
I think what it comes down to is preference. I used to have a 220 but now that I have had my X2 I would never buy a nautique again. Not because they are bad boats, but I have found I prefer a more rampy wake verse a steeper wake. Also hairband dude your friend must be doing something wrong because my best friend has a X2 with the fly high kit and we have never had a problem with the wake.

Check out the Supra 22SSV. It's definitely a sleeper boat. It doesn't look that big, but the wake is sweet with very little work. Super to drive as well.

Well I offered them 60k out the door for the boat. It already has wetsounds tower speakers and I asked that a ws420, the fly high ballast, and the extended warranty be included for 60k. I guess we will see tomorrow.

does 60k out the door include your trade?

No, this is before trade. They came down to 65k but for now I'll pass. I'm headed to the Malibu dealer now to check out an 09 VLX, we will see what they can do for me. The guys at the Mastercraft dealer are great guys though, I feel like I'm cheating by going to the Malibu dealer lol.

The one for 53k posted above is across the entire country.

The X2 is an awesome boat if you don't intend to ride behind it.
Old     (02redws6ta)      Join Date: Aug 2008       08-29-2009, 1:33 PM Reply
Well the Malibu dealer came farther down in price for a boat that was 7k more sticker price than the x2. I think I have a deal worked out for a loaded vlx. Going to think about it for the weekend and decide.

Although I Am a definite Supra guy, I have no beef with Malibu. THey make great boats. But I would wait a little bit and look at the 2010 supras. I have seen a lot of the new products, and it is going to revolutionize the way we think about controling our boats.

Also I meant to say the 20SSV, whoops :-)

Caleb 22SSV is a very good boat, but the VLX is way better than a 20SSV

I wasn't sure if garage space was an issue.
Old     (kko13)      Join Date: Jul 2006       08-30-2009, 5:25 AM Reply
i would go with the vlx all day every day over an X-2. Sounds like you made a great deal on a great boat now pull da trigger and ride brotha ride. post some pics of the new ride!
Old     (ixfe)      Join Date: Aug 2008       08-30-2009, 8:38 AM Reply
This is the second thread on this page where a MC dealer loses a potential X-2 sale due to unrealistic pricing.

If space is not an issue I'd take the VLX over the X-2 without question.

What else have you looked at?
Old     (dohboy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       08-30-2009, 10:36 AM Reply
As an X2 owner you cant even compare the VLX and X2. I would go with the VLX hands down or a few other boats over the X2 if I had the space. The reason people were suggesting the X2 is due to the length. Don't get me wrong I love my X2 but for me bigger is better for both interior room and water displacement. My buddies VLX throws a great wake and if you have room for it do it. Although I think the X2 rides and handles better but that might just be due to the length. The only thing I would say is don't jump the gun. Look at every boat your thinking about to get the best one for you. Test drive loaded to make sure it turns like you want still. I was surprised how some became tanks turning at low speed.

Interesting Rich. you say get a VLX over an X-2 but you think the X-2 handles and drives better.
I with respect could not disagree more. The biggest reason i pick the VLX over the X-2 is the VLX dirves and handles SOOOO much better. The better wake on the VLX is just icing on the cake if you will, not to mention bigger size. But thats why anyone looking for a boat should drive as many brands/models as they can to make a decision.
Old     (eaglejackson)      Join Date: Oct 2004       08-30-2009, 2:44 PM Reply
I am an MC owner with an excellent local dealer. But I would choose a new VLX over a new X-2 in a heartbeat, assuming comparably equipped and priced and no other constraints (eg., room for an X-2 but not the VLX). If the VLX were cheaper, it's really a no-brainer, unless for some reason you have to have an MC or buy from the MC dealer.
Old     (tampawake)      Join Date: Mar 2008       08-31-2009, 6:51 AM Reply
KKO is right I would take the VLX hands down if the space is of no importance. Great boat coming from a MC owner as well.

I road an X2 last night, and it was real nice. Wake wasn't huge with factory ballast but was solid, and really, who here rides with factory ballast for long? Thing had a great shape to it, and it cleaned up at slow speeds.
