Youtube video. The boat looks great. I have a feeling this could be their new best seller.

Death of the Xstar????

Wow, I am not a big Mastercraft fan but this boat is amazing. If I was in the market for a new boat, this would get a strong consideration.

Very nice. Is this the first it's been shown? If so, kind of odd to hold out till December, but Boat Show season is right around the corner.

It was pretty funny. I actually got the email about it and ran into Darren who runs the Seattle Mastercraft dealer about 10 minutes later. He let me know they are going to have one for the boat show in Seattle. I am definitely checking that out.

any idea on $$$$

isn't the X-star 22'5/6"
Old     (snowboardcorey)      Join Date: Jan 2004       12-23-2009, 2:43 PM Reply
MC's specing the X-25 at 21'6" long and 102" wide the X-Star is 22'3" and 100" wide.

Nick,

Exactly what I was thinking. MC makes too many boats IMO.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       12-23-2009, 3:04 PM Reply
They do have a lot of boats. I think it is about time to kill off the 205v hull for good. Maybe they could sell the mold to a company like Standard Boats but I don't know if it is a good idea to sell that to another manufacturer. If the 225 really is only 21'6" then I wonder if they keep the X15. That was a pretty popular boat I think.

Hmm kinda looks like MC's version of CC 230, not bashing MC, first thing that came to mine when I seen the email.

If this thing has the wake of the CSX 220, I will have one!
Old     (tampawake)      Join Date: Mar 2008       12-23-2009, 3:39 PM Reply
If anything a 210 crusher same length. If the wake is as good as the 210 with stock ballast I would lean heavily mc. To date the best wake without ballast and stock ballast I have ridden. Hopefully some csx guys will step up and talk about the wake. Long live the 205v I own an xstar of that model.

I am not a big MC fan, but that is a very nice family boat with a great wake. Personally, I am very curious to how nice the surf wake.
Old     (bmartin)      Join Date: Jan 2007       12-23-2009, 3:45 PM Reply
Why kill the 205V hull? I don't know what their sales figures look like across the lines, but there are others I would knock out of the line up before the 205. That is an ideal platform from which to build an entry level ride.

Off topic, but any fall out from the ill fated Rewards program MC had last year at the boat shows???? Haven't heard what happened to all those people with vouchers...I'm sure MC would rather not resurrect the topic, but I'm kind of curious.

I'm surprised this boat is only 21'6". That puts it in X-15 territory. I wonder if MC has thoughts of removing the X-15 and X-30 from the line-up now that they have the X-25 and X-35, both on the CSX hull which seems to get rave reviews...

They really need to get rid of the X30 if they haven't already.

I only say get rid of the 205V because that simply isn't what people are looking for these days. They also aren't an entry level builder. It is also built different than any other boat they make besides the 197. In 2007 when I sold Mastercrafts I think we sold one 205V the whole year and it was a left over 2006 that was being sold for real cheap. That was between 2 or 3 different MC dealers.

It would be pretty cool if Standard bought the original SAN 210 and 205V molds. Then they could make entry level 2001's, 205V's and SAN's. Maybe even buy the original VLX mold.

Back to the X25 though. I really like the rear facing seats. Even though it is illegal to sit in them while under way they would be perfect for sitting in while surfing.

I wish MC would come up with a better naming system. It is a pain trying to remember what all the numbers corespond to. It is just getting more confusing with each model.
Old     (brett564)      Join Date: Jul 2006       12-23-2009, 6:37 PM Reply
WOW! This boat is amazing! the rear facing transom seats are the most useful and innovative ideas I've seen implemented into wakeboats in a while. I can only imagine how expensive this is going to be though.

It looks like someone put all the best features from other boat makers into this boat. It has everything except a wedge!

I'm proud to say that our group down at fanfair this fall was the first ever to drive and ride the X25. All I can say is "wow". Our time in boat was rushed due to the rainy weather but we managed to get in a few sets each. With only the stock ballast, the wake was awesome. One of our riders is the biggest wake snob you'll ever meet and he gave it 2 thumbs up. I can go on on about this boat.. By far the best stock wake I've ever rode

Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       12-24-2009, 9:09 AM Reply
This is a complete guess but I think that the 25, 35 and 55 are all probably based on a hull similar to the CSX. Since MC says the X25 is on the CSX hull I would say the 35 and 55 are based on bigger versions of the hull?
Old     (phenom_1819)      Join Date: Jan 2008       12-24-2009, 9:09 AM Reply
Hopefully one of the MC guys will chime in. I'm still a Supra guy. ;) But I'm reasonably sure I've read or heard that the X-35 is based on the CSX hull... Unfortunately, searching past threads isn't helping me verify.

EDIT: Brett, looks like we were posting at the same time.

Can't wait to ride this boat this spring. I loved the wake on the CSX 220, but the interior layout just wasn't for me. I think the X-Star will still be their core wakeboard boat, but it will be interesting to compare sales figures in '10 to '08 and '09 to see which boats sell the best.

Most dealers should be getting them in for the January shows. I am very excited to see this boat in person, and hopefully get to demo it eventually (nothing but +++ about the wake STOCK, something rare for a MC).

My conversation with my deal is it IS the CSX 220 hull
Old     (sp0tts)      Join Date: Jun 2004       12-28-2009, 7:07 AM Reply
the video says it is, and if you look at the specs, they're identical to the CSX... basically, they took the CSX and gave it a wakeboat interior...
Old     (ripr)      Join Date: Mar 2002       12-28-2009, 10:38 AM Reply
CSX hull on a wakeboat interior is a winner.

I've ridden the CSX (the smaller one) and it was one of the best wakes I've ever been on.

I shiver just thinking of the price tag on this new one, but it looks like they've got a good one.

I could see the X-15 and X-30 going away soon.
Old     (bill_airjunky)      Join Date: Apr 2002       12-28-2009, 10:41 AM Reply
So any bets as to how long it will take for someone to either slide off one of those back seats while underway? Or get a ticket for sitting there while surfing/boarding?
Old     (hco)      Join Date: Jun 2006       12-28-2009, 11:48 AM Reply
The one thing the X15 has going for it is the non-picklefork. Some people really like the traditional bow as opposed to the pickle fork. The X-30 should definitely be removed from the lineup.

NAW do you know how it compares to the new SAN210?
Old     (ripr)      Join Date: Mar 2002       12-28-2009, 12:46 PM Reply
tampawake- not particularily, its been awhile. The CSX I rode behind had a ton of people in it, and the new 210 I rode in had just 2 people and factory ballast. Not really a fair comparison.
Old     (tampawake)      Join Date: Mar 2008       12-28-2009, 1:01 PM Reply
Thanks man buddy has a 210 with factory ballast would say its the most impressive wake I have been on with stock ballast. I think only 500 - 700 lbs. That is.
Old     (surfdoggy)      Join Date: Dec 2009       12-28-2009, 2:58 PM Reply
Cool features in a lot of places. The deep vee should really help the surf wake. I wonder if you can get much extra ballast in it though, given that the rear compartments look fairly small.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       12-28-2009, 3:02 PM Reply
The openings for the rear compartments are small but I am not sure the actual compartments are that small. I would think you could get at least 500 in each rear locker.

I'm digging it. Looks like a boat that might actually give the MB widebody a fair comparison. It'll be interesting to see how it's priced. Does anyone know if Chicago MC will have one on hand at the McCormick Center?
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       12-29-2009, 5:43 PM Reply
I am guessing an MSRP in the 90-100k range when equipped nicely and a real world selling price of 75-85.

I think Tampa was being sarcastic... And I don't think mc has ever claimed to make boats for the common man. MC has strived to be best in class. Hard to do both at the same time.

Here are the base MSRP’s according to the Waterski Mag 2009 Boat Review issue:

X-2 = $65k
CSX 220 = $68k
X-15 = $69k
X-35 = $78k
x-Star = $80k

My guess is somewhere in the low 70s?
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       12-31-2009, 9:38 AM Reply
Mike, you are probably correct with the low to mid 70's base MSRP. Now start adding stuff at MSRP prices.

Trailer-8,000
MCX-2000
LY6-An additional 3-5k above the MCX I am guessing
Bimini-700
cover-700
heater-700
fiberglass platform-700
bow filler cushion-500
one set of tower speakers with lights-2200
additional set-2200
tower mirror arm-300
shower-700

If you take a base MSRP of 73k that comes to 92900 plus freight, prep, tax, license. Now that is for a 100% loaded boat. But if you got 10% off the 92900 that give you around 83k plus freight, prep, tax and license.

I think if you got one with an MCX, teak deck, bimini, heater, tandem trailer and cover but with no tower speakers, shower, bow filler cushion, tower lights, underwater lights, etc you could probably get one for about 75-78k at peak season. That is just a guess though.

The X25 is the only boat sharing the same hull as the CSX. The X35 is completely different. The X25 is an amazing boat, it has so much more interior room and storage than most of its competition and the wake for once is awesome with stock ballast. I have spent quite a bit of time in the CSX and the ride it gives you in choppy water is quite comfortable compared to most. Its very soft when hitting big rollers, it doesnt feel like you just broke the stringers or your kidneys when pounding through them. I think the X25 is going to take over being the top seller over the X2.
Hopefully Zane will have one at home so we can play with it for a while.
Old     (tampawake)      Join Date: Mar 2008       01-05-2010, 7:36 AM Reply
It wont take over if its 25 to 30k more than the X2. Not everyone is sponsored or bringing down 200,000 a year to afford a 75 to 85k boat. No matter how good it is.

tampawake, the XStar is in 2nd place as far as sales go and it is quite a bit more money than the the X2. I hear what your saying, but I dont think price will have as much to do with it as we think. (unfortunately)
As far as 20K-30K more, I doubt it will be that much. Probably more along the line of 10k-15k more.
Its quite a bit more boat size wise, its a 1ft & half longer and 6" wider. The width is where all the extra room comes from.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       01-05-2010, 10:18 AM Reply
For 10-15k more than the X2 I could see a lot of people stepping up to this boat over the X2 unless they have space issues. It looks like a lot more boat than the X2.

Ken, plug and play ballast? That is very intriguing. Did they have dual rear and a front?

If you load one out with plug and play ballast, camera, surf tabs, bimini, tower mirror arm, cover, fiberglass platform, bow filler cushion, heater, shower, binding blaster, 4 tower speakers w/ lights, rear facing lights and ly6 I could see this boat selling for over 100k.
