Put a K&N drop in filter and then on the tube that goes from the air box to the turbo there is a baffle that will pull out real easy. Gives the turbo a nice whistle. I love my 08. Sweet looking ride. Check out this forum real helpfull info on there.

I have an 07 2500 Mega with 5.9L. You'll love the truck. I put XD 22"x9.5" and Terra Grappler 285/50/22 on it the other month. Instead of leveling my by lifing the front, I installed 2" drop shackles in the rear. You'll find that the truck doesn't really turn...it "comes about" just like a boat

You going to do the deletes. If so there are some good threads on how to keep the check engine light off and not having to clear codes every start. That forum is like WW but for Dodge. I leveled mine and have XD 20x9.5 with a 305-55-20 nitto. There is a way to disable the seatbelt chime by cycling the key. There is a thread on it in there somewhere.

Nice set up fellas. Is Dodge still using the 48RE? How are those holding up? They were doing good when I worked for Dodge but it was still fairly new.

Hate my 48RE is holding up great. I've got the smarty programmer and throwing 450hp/800tq at it and still going strong.

^^^ Wow thats great to hear. If I remember right the 8 is a torque rating designation out of a possible 9 which I was told is the same as the Allison by trainers back in the day.

I got a 135k out of my 48re before it gave up. It had been flogged repeatedly with a 130hp chip on 35's so it held up really well considering. I now have a DTT custom tranny that should go for 250k. I do plan on wearing my truck out.

Rob, I thought Toyota scrapped the diesel idea a while back. I remember seeing prototypes some time back and thought Toyota reliability AND a diesel would be a cool idea.

Rodney, you can't honestly compare a fullsize gas truck to a diesel truck. The diesel pulls more, lasts longer, more efficient with/without load, and lots higher resale/trade-in. Initial upfront purchase cost is the only real negative (which would be negated during trade or resale).

No more than any other truck. Initial cost is not always more. Up keep is not much difference either. I would bet money that Toyota cost more than my Dodge.

Nice rig!!!

My neighbor has it's twin and pulls a 40 foot warrior full of quads with twin pop outs. Runs from Sacto to Nevada almost every weekend with NO ISSUES.

Gotta love the domestic Diesel rigs...

up keep is definitely more on a diesel. how much is one of your oil changes? ...just for starters. and an equivalent truck (same options) is more for a diesel, hands down...unless, you buy at a time when diesel is $5 a gallon.

TRO, I have owned a diesel for the last 5 years and 150k miles and can tell you that the diesel will break even on maintenance. All the tuneups with plugs caps and rotor parts that no longer are needed add up. My gas truck I had before was cheeper at the oil change but thats it. My huge breaks on my truck (standard because of towing capacity) lasted 80k on the front and 120k on the rear. The diesel trucks are so over engineered that all areas of the truck last longer and need less maintenance

^^^^^ My last oil change was $33.00. How much do you spend on plugs,wires and coil packs and your gas mileage when you tow. The resale is much higher on a diesel too. I have owned many gasers and two diesels. The benefits of a diesel far out way a gas truck. Please show me a gas 2500 or 1500 for that matter 4wd with power cloth seats four door,cd,power sliding rear glass, front bucket seats with console, over head console,tilt,cruse,satellite,bed liner,steps,17 wheels,tow package,tinted windows,fog lights etc for 32k new. My gas trucks got 8-9 mpgs towing my boat and 14-15 with the diesel. I'm just saying.

Sorry Joe looks like your thread has turned into a gas vs diesel debate - my bad. Just saw the heading "new tow rig" so I thought I would post up. Anyways..good points on the diesel. I was planning on a diesel however I went for the Toy as I got a great deal and I no longer have to tow my boat great distances - just up to the lake at the beginning of the season. If we didnt have a place at the lake and I was towing every weekend I would have gone for the diesel as the gas motor really sucks it back when loaded up. Granted the Tundra tows like nobodys business but I only get 325km per tank compared to 500km unloaded and commuting to work everyday in a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel didnt seem quite as practical as a 1/2 ton gas truck (if you can even call that practical).

my gas truck gets 10mpg towing and 17-18 regular. my buddie's powerstroke gets 13-14 mpg regular and probably about the same towing.

Ya mine is 14.5 in town unloaded and 18-19 on the highway unloaded. I get 14-15 towing the boat mostly high way when towing. That's hand calculated. I'm not the most conservative driver on my in town driving either.

Well Rob you have the idea.

Aaron your justification for a diesel over gasser may work for the many who are clueless about their vehicles.

Your maintenance and the initial cost of a diesel will NEVER be more cost effective than a gasser. INCLUDING FUEL MILEAGE. Until you get past 200K miles.(which makes sense for folks who use it for a construction-type buisness.)

There isnt a wakeboat made that cant be towed with a 1/2 ton. Anything more is overkill.

Feel free to flame away and justify your purchase.

No need to flame. It's not your fault you don't know better. No one said you can not tow with a half ton. Read my post above and do you home work and show me. That's what I paid for my truck and those are the options and fuel mileage. Let's hear your idea. Inform the clueless. What do you tow with and whats your mileage, maintenance etc ?

Aaron he obviously likes to tow hills at 3000+ rpm to maintain speed while the diesels pass them at 1600 rpm up hill. Been there done that and you can't beat a diesel for towing and there is no arguing that fact.

I've had several 1/2 ton pickups from all the american brands and a 3/4 ton gasser and non of them could tow like the diesel. I have it because I wanted it plain and simple, not need to justify any further.

Aaron you stated that your oil change was 33.00 dollars.

Either your a liar or your delusional. Your Dodge takes a minimum 12 quarts of oil. Plus a filter.
EVEN IF YOU DID THE OIL CHANGE YOURSELF IT WASNT 33 BUCKS.

From that statement alone YOU are one of the clueless.

Jim maybe he was a little off, Shell Rotella T 15w40 $10 a gallon. Oil filter $10 depending where you get it. I can do it for $40 without any special deals on anything.

OOOOP's I get a little discount from O'riely on my parts (shop rate) and nu bu is correct got my rotella for $10.00 a gallon. Yes I did do it my self. Man you must feel stupid. Now find me a gas truck comprable to mine for cheaper. Don't forget state inspection on a diesel is $15.00 and gassers are $40 or $45. Dude I can do this all day. You will loose.

Ok Aaron. Whatever you say. Your world is a small one.

There is a minimum 4-5K premium for the diesel option.

Add it up all day....how many years does it take you to break even???? You can even count your mileage if you want. Im thinking over 6 years....even in YOUR best case senario.

Don't forget us clueless diesel owners have the option to make our own fuel if wanted. If I remember correct it's about $.55 or $.65 a gallon.

Diesel all the way. I don't have a newer Dodge I have an 01 that gets about 18 driving around town empty and 15-16 towing. I also do my oil changes for about $40, and only have to do them every 7k miles. Which equals to just about every 6 months. I think another key idea missed here is that my truck has 143,000 miles and runs like a gas truck with 50,000. It will last another 150,000 easy. How many Gas trucks do you see towing at 200,000 miles?

Jim you are correct you will pay more for a diesel truck, even if it is a small premium vs a comparable gas truck. There is a reason for it, diesels have beefed up tranny's as well to account for all the tq.

Personally I think that owning a newer, semi-tricked out diesel is kinda like owning a new luxury car...it just has that feel to it (for me anyways). Resale and/or trade-in is definately where you'll get your money back from a diesel AND more than likely more than the initial cost for the diesel option. My friend is a manager for a large Dodge dealership here in Texas so diesels are sold and traded daily. He shows me the numbers on the deals as far as trade-in and often shows me the actual diesel truck traded in. It amazes me how much this dealer will give a customer trading in a beat up, torn seats, cracked windshield, dented bed/tailgate, over 250k miles for a new diesel.

I think the problem with buying and selling a new Diesel like that is that it isn't even broken in by the time you get rid of it for a new one. Part of the reason I think paying the extra for the diesel is it's ability to run well for a much longer peiod. Yeah at times diesels trade and sell for more, but 2 years ago, when diesel was almost $5 a gallon, you couldn't give them away.

I recently went from a diesel to a newer gasser and don't have any real complaints. Sure, it's nice to hear the turbo spool up and never have to take it out of overdrive while pulling a hill. I'll also miss the smarty programmer's power. However, I was able to buy the exact same 3/4 ton truck but newer in a gasser version for 7k less than I paid for my year older diesel. I'm comfortable with downshifting and losing a little bit of speed. 7k will buy a whole lotta gas/oil changes in my newer truck. There are benefits to having either so just be happy with yours and stop caring about the other. The gas v diesel has been going on as long as the chicken v the egg. Clearly the only hands down winner is whatever you own. If you have a diesel don't forget to wave at me when you pass the white ram 2500 on I5.

My truck is an '07 mega with 5.9L. I had the option for either but chose the 5.9 since it's been around for years.

Wow, go away for a day.......Nice Toy Rob. I guess it depends on the deal. I stole mine for $25K. 08' 6.9 with 45k miles. It included the lift, amp steps, exhaust, Laramie pkg, etc.....I also have a fifth wheel that my 1/2 ton could not tow.
