The past weekend, I was trying to learn a tantrum. I was landing on my board, but with a lot of weight on my back ankle. I have a beginner board and bindings, so I tweaked my ankle. Would it help me to learn tantrums better if I had a nicer board and bindings?

What setup are you riding now? I know you said its a beginner setup, but what setup is it? We could help more if we know more.

I have an '04 Hyperlite Juvi board with '04 Hyperlite Spin bindings. I was just wondering if i could get more speed and pop with a nicer board.

Yes you could get a board with more speed and better pop. You can get bindings with better ankle support as well, with a nicer setup. How tall are you? How much do you weigh? What kind of boat are you riding behind?

I am 5' 6", and weigh 120. I ride behind a 2002 Air Nautique. I was thinking about getting a 134 Substance with Transits. any thoughts?

You cant go wrong with a Substance with Transits. I would check out the CWB Flame 134 with the Torq bindings as well as the CWB Pure with the Torq bindings you can get the either setup Board and bindings for around 420 bucks hard to beat, they are both really sick setups and will give you more speed bigger pop and a great set bindings.

you will still have the same problem, it's not the board, its you. You need more practice, Good Luck!!

I know I need more practice, but since I hurt my ankle, I just thought it would be helpful with a board with softer landings and bindings with more support. Is that right?

Well I dont think it will hurt your riding getting a nicer setup, but Byrd is correct you need more practice.

You might want to try and adjust your current bindings a little to see if you can get them tighter. After a while some bindings will loosen up. If you are landing with more weight on one ankle, most likely your weight is not even leaving the wake. I twisted my ankle last weekend, its just what happens in this sport sometimes. Better your ankle than a knee.....

well first off what board and bindings are you riding now?? id say the most important of the two are the bindings and it cant hurt to have some cush high end boots to keep your ankles supported and feet comfy as well as some confidence.. you can wait on the board...

Kevin, Substance is a nice board and I like mine. I have Ultras right now and they are pretty good but don't seem to have a lot of ankle support. I was also thinking of getting some Transits to go with the Substance--anyone have a good comparison of Ultras vs. Transits?

Transits feel alot less 'tight' around your foot then Ultras, down low at least. As far as around your ankle, Transits feel like a pair of Ultras with some string tied around the tops and your ankle. I like both.

Practice tantrums on a trampoline with a rope and handle. It will really help learning how to flip up and over the rope instead of around the rope. That way you get more comfortable on the water.
