So we're getting some pretty good weather here in Washinton. We got some snow over the weekend and we've been in the low teens for the last couple of days. I tried to fill up my gas tank today and it keeps spittin up like its full, but the gauge says its empty. I originally thought maybe something froze inside the gas tank...but I'm not sure what because I've never heard of such a thing. Then I thought maybe my gauge is broken, maybe just coincidently with the weather, but I was able to fight 7 gallons in it today (literally took me about 25 minutes) and now my gauge reads just over 1/4 tank which would be about right for 7 gallons. So I tend to believe my gauge is working properly, but that means something is causing my gas tank to not allow gas? Anyone ever experience this? And to answer the obvious, its not the pump, I've tried 4 different pumps...

Roll over valve?

Vent tube?

User error?

I never had that problem on my 2000 Dakota and it definitely saw cold weather. More likely something is in the tube. It could be the little backsplash door that is spring loaded and shuts off the hole your filling spout goes through.
Good luck. I'm not sure what else it could be.

I'm not gonna lie...it SUCKED trying to get gas in that thing. But my wife uses the truck when its snowy and icy and she'd already tried to fill it up at 2 different pumps. She was able to get .1 gallon one time, and just over 1 gallon the next before she froze. I just wanted make sure she doesn't run out of gas somewhere.

no enemies that I know of

Problem solved! I took it to the dealer and they thought they may have to remove the gas tank, but suggested I try a $2 bottle of fuel-line anti-freeze first. Added a bottle and filled it up. Who knew?

interesting. This has happened in my Nissan Titan before but it worked its way through it

Must be some vent tube clogged.

Or water in your tank, filler or fuel line...... which froze. Might be a good idea to run some fuel dryer in your tank sometime soon.
