Been ridding my substance 142 for a while and it's a bit slow for me I prefer to land in the flats but the substance makes that hard. I'm looking seriously at these two boards but I'm torn, can't ride now as the lakes are still frozen. Anyone able to compare the two? Oh, I ride more of the old school style, not many spins, more inverts. More load and release type ridding.

I would demo, but you can get last years so much cheaper on line, plus the lakes are still frozen. By the way Nick, nice profile pic. I take it that you're on a covin? (Message edited by robandrus on March 05, 2008)

Yeah, that was taken when I was riding the IBEX... that board was pretty fun, but look at slingshot, i am riding one now and it was 5 times more fun than the ronix setup... they are seriously worth taking a look at... they pop like nothing I've ever experienced

The Covin is like a freaking rocket. Tons of speed, and alot of pop; awesome set up, you will love it.

I've neer ridden the covin but I rode the frontier all last season. I was coming off of a blindside blade and all in all the frontier was much more forgiving, had similar pop but more consistency (well, I landed more tricks more often) I rode the stock fins. I still own this board and I'll ride it again this season, though I am going to check out the slingshots as well. I work at a shop so I have the ability to demo pretty much anything though I usually just demo a couple and ride what works best. I've found that I need a good baseline from which to judge other boards, without that it's hard to really get a grasp of new boards. If you have the ability to demo do it up, if not then I'll give my nod towards the frontier. Very consistent and very stable in all conditions.

Haven't been on a continuous for a long time. Maybe it's time to try it again. Any other suggestions. -Oh great news, found and bought a 1995 Sunsetter, Monster tower on the way, in black of course.

HNick did you get a chance to ride a covin......Was actually going to demo both when the season started here. WAs leaning IBEX, but really not sure.......Did you think it landed soft in the flats? How did you think the pop was....consitant or did you have to be exactly in the right position like is old Hyperlite version that I couldn't ride for #$%? I think they way I approach the wake killed Parks' older board from Hyperlite that is why I am skeptical of the Covin as well. I take a progressive cut for mots will say 99% of my tricks whether toeside or heelside. Heard the Covin like stated is a rocket, but I am rarely charging at the wake with speed. More trip flip inverts and load releasy tricks like Rob mentioned I am on a Transcend now the older shape and love it, but it is cursed as I blew my knee(ACL/MCL/Meniscus) last year on it so no more rides on that HIJACK OVER! Yah, I take a progressive cut on 99% of my stuff, I like the pop on the substance, just seems like I have a hard time getting the distance, I'm sick of caping the back side of the wake on rolls.

I'm also in this boat. Both have great reviews so I'm wondering which is better for me.

Gotta suggest the new Murray board. I rode the Frontier last year. It was a good board, but I did not like how it turned back into the wake slow. It is fast on edge and has good pop...just that initial turn back to the wake..bothered me..almost like it stalls out for a moment. The covin is super fast...but I found it a little harsh on the landings. The bottom is quite flat. You should at least try the 08 Murray...you will not be disappointed. The bottom is very unique with the concavity in the tip and tail. Makes for really nice launches and landings. This thing is so different than any of the boards in the past. Super fun! The only board I truly can not compare it to...because I have not tried them....is the Slingshot gear. But I love the Murray and super stoked riding it more this Summer. Just waiting for another business trip down south. Talks at work that I might be headed to New Mexico...might have to find a place to ride there. Otherwise I am in the same boat as you Rob...frozen lake...ugh!
