Last year I bought an 03 Hyperlite Belmont 131 DNA. It looks like a normal Belmont on the top but It has the 03 Byerly Base. Whats up with that?

It's a factory blem or one that was when they were prototyping the board most likely. I have a State with Byerly graphics on it

Do you not understand. I said I was a beginner When i bought this board! I knew nothing about wakeboarding. Now I do. All I wanted to know was if this board was a factory defect or something like that and now I know.

A board like that could be one of a kind. The guy laying the graphics may have just applied the wrong template. I'd hold on to it as well.

Sometimes at the end of the year they'll use up their excess graphics by putting them on other boards. You'll usually see some motives with differant graphics at the end of the year, that could be your case. Or as said could be a mistake. It wouldn't be a prototype, though they do do that but its got 2003 graphics, so that shape would had been out for a year already. I'd hold on to it!

Yeah... Sorry, I thought more people knew about SMU's. It's basically when they make too many top layers (graphics) of boards, and don't know what to do with them so they add them to the cheaper boards, such as Motives and the others. Sometimes you will see they add a 139 DNA graphic to a 134 board... so the board will say 139DNA, but you will notice on the top AND bottom of the board, the graphic is cut off (from the 2.5CM on each end missing). Sometimes it inconveniently ends in the middle of writing, sometimes it's hard to notice when its just a solid color. Another giveaway is when the base of the board is a Motive, and the top of the board is a Byerly/Parks/Belmont/etc., usually DNAs. The base of an SMU board never matches the top graphic... for example a Parks base SMU will never have the Parks top graphic, etc. Another giveaway if you know the SHAPE of the board the graphics are of, and they don't match the board the graphics are on... for example they put Parks graphics on a Motive, well the Parks looks nothing like the Motive at all. They sell them for cheap, for people who want a cheap board with Parks' picture or a Belmont graphic on it. In a nutshell.

Mine also has a different shape than the 03 belmont. And instead of 3 fins It's got only one A-wing in the middle and then 2 built in fins on the sides. I'll take some pictures and post them in a minute.

The shop in town always has those. They take all the leftovers and press them together to get rid of old graphics. I seriously doubt that it's a dna - just the graphics. (Message edited by lives2wake on June 11, 2006)

I don't think that's a premier or an era. It looks exactly like my first hyperlite I bought last year at Dick's Sporting Goods. It'd be easier to tell if it had the ends in the picture but the board's called a Tempest. I've tried to search for that board online after I bought it just out of curiosity to see what they were going for and have never been able to find it.

OH man! You guys are making me worry. I just ordered a cheap board advertised as a'blemished' 05 hyperlite state: http://www.wakeside.com/page/w/PROD/closeouts_discount_wakeboards/hyperlite_state_135_wakeboards_05_blem I ordered this board b/c I rode my friend's state 135 and loved it. Weird thing was her board was purple. The only possible colors that board comes in are red and blue...but the bottom grapics were right. We'll see what color mine is???? eeeek. I guess as long as its the same as her's I'll be happy.

The state has a toeside and a heelside not a nose and tail. The toes should point to the side with the deeper fins.

k- I picked the board up last year from my local shop for my ex-gf. So since she decided to leave me I now just have the board, basically the beginner/girl board now is what it is since obviously the mini spin's will not fit anyone but a girl or young kids feet. When I rode the 140 State I had it set up this same way. It makes sense to me due to it having the toeside edge being the way I have it due to the shape. It seems as though that way dig's you in and holds your edge harder like it is intended to do.

i went board shopping today and the guy explained how the state works...its true, there is a toe and heel side, its made to compensate on your toe carves since heelside is easier they put bigger fins on your toeside to help your edge towards the wake so you can get more speed...so id listen to kristian...im thinking of getting a state too, or i might get a CWB Pure.(any input would be appreciated, thanks)

So if you're regular stance....set the board up goofy for maximum edge?

no...it all depends on the size of the fin...because one is small so make your heels point to the smaller fin and your toes to the bigger fin...he might have it set up right though...im not sure

I was thinking it didn't matter because it's a 3 stage board....so switch or goofy setup didn't matter...tails were the same pattern.

if you guys look at the regular state it has one edge with a solid colour. Thats the way your toes are ment to be pointing. So in the case of that state with the byerly graphics, yes its only ment to be setup goofy. See one side has a deeper molded fin thats ment to be on your toeside for better hold. The heelside has a shallower fin and a channel for more speed and quicker release. DC- There is no goofy or regular on the state only toeside and heelside. So the board would be setup the same for someone who is goofy or regular. If you check out the graphics you'll see they run from edge to edge not nose to tail like most boards, so it doesn't matter.

So if the color side is for your toes then mine is setup correctly. Go look at the board in the board guide and it shows the slanted edge being the color side.

Those are only drawings in the board guide. just flip it over and check out there is a channel on one side to the inside of a molded fin, thats heelside. Simplest way to do it. Or if you want the toeside is longer than the heelside. I'm gonna guess thats a 130, so the toeside is 130 and the heelside is closer to 125. The side cut is flatened out near the ends on the toeside. The step down rail is deeper on the toeside (Message edited by kristian on June 13, 2006)

They're only drawings. The nose is slightly differant. No the edge with the solid colour is the toeside.

Ok here we go: State 101. Check out this link to the board guide: http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3080 The left side is heelside the right is toeside. Look closely now. Heelside has a shorter edge. Toeside longer and the solid colour, so no I'm not contratradicing myself.

http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard6.asp?ProductID=2594 To me it makes more sense for the toeside to be the color side. I would think that with the nose on the toeside being at more of an angle and shorter it allows you to then dig in to the toeside and stay on edge easier.

Not sure what your saying there to be honest. but the red edge is the toeside, but check out this video of mike. It'll explain it to you, because I'm not doing a very good job here. http://www.boardstop.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_36&products_id=1444 its the quicktime near the bottom

So with the redside being toeside then mine is setup correctly. That video does explain it well though. This is just one confusing board. I guess it's best to just ride it how you feel suits you maybe?
