This is a very common problem in 2004-2005 Malibus. It happened to mine and 2 friends as well. You should not need a new transmission, just a new damper plate, bell housing and possibly starter.

I think the blend fits me for two reasons, the Bi level allows a very realistic concave deck which I like and it tracks a bit more like a wakeboard, which has been my primary hobby the last 10 years....
