Voltage issues w/ older 23LSV

I have an older 23LSV with the standard 2 battery perko switch setup and keep having the voltage drop throughout the day as though the alternator is not doing it's job. (I even put a new battery in and it is doing the same thing)
I checked it by running the boat without the batteries connected and it ran fine for awhile. Can the alternator still be going bad even though it keep the boat running or is there a draw somewhere else?

could be the voltage regulator in the alt that's throwing funky voltage. If you ran it at an idle, may not have created enough voltage to keep it running without batteries. They start making juice around 1500 RPMs. pull it and have it tested at a shop.

FYI (you may already know) this is a marinized part! Don't just pop any alt on there and call it good.

what year?

Yes, there are other draws. Stereo, ballast pumps, power wedge(?), etc etc.

2004 LSV , the first year of the new hull..... I have a feeling this might be a goose chase. Thanks for the starting suggestions. Guess I will pull it and test it. It DOES run with the batteries pulled.

DONT PULL THE CABLES WHILE ITS RUNNING ...you can fry your electronics worse case could be the computer . Put a multi meter on the battery and see if you get 14 volts while its running . You also said you had 2 battery's but only replaced 1 ..If you have a week battery it will ruin the new one . Always change in pairs . Good luck

Thanks for the input. Do both batteries charge from the alternator assuming the switch is set to A/B (both)?
FYI running it with low voltage the Perfect Pass keep restarting in mid run over and over.....all the while the computer is beeping low voltage warning on the dash. I am assuming that is bad???

I do have a stereo when working will draw a pretty fair amount of power also. Only one amp is hooked up now (2 interior speakers) so as to not draw everything down. I was waiting until I figure this out to reattach everything.

If the switch is set to both the boat will draw or charge both

Thanks. I had heard several times that only one battery was being charged in that Perko switch setup.

Warranty out your new battery and buy the same other. Get a multi meter and check the out put on alternator.

With the engine running (>1500rpm), the battery voltage should be 14v +/- .5v

Will one really affect the other that much? Shouldn't one of the batteries be deep cycle for the potential stereo drain?
