I just purchased the following equipment for work.

Nikon D70
AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 3.5-4.5G
AF Fisheye Nikkor 10.5mm 2.8G (Digital Lense)
Speedlight SB-800 Flash

I am definitely a beginner in photography and had a few questions regarding shooting wakeboarding.

#1)Which lenses other than what I have would anyone recommend?
#2)Does anyone still use a flash even though there is ample light on a sunny day?
#3)What mode of shooting is best for wakeboarding? I am normally shooting in apature mode.

1)The most popular lens for WB shooting is normally a 70-200 zoom. An f2.8 constant is great but an f4 is plenty fast enough for outdoor work.

2) Fill flash can be very effective if used right. You need a powerful flash to get effective reach but the top of the line Nikon should be fine.

3) You want either full manual or shutter priority at fast (1/800th or faster) speeds to freeze the action. If you want all of the rider in focus normally f4 or smaller is good to give you enough DOF. I think you'll find if you're shooting during "magic hour" you can go a 1000th or 2000th of a second and will get somewhere between f4 and f8 which is perfect for WB.

HTH
