Who do you think is the Tim Tebow of Wakeboarding?

durty_curt 01-14-2012 11:57 PM

Randall Harris? For the religious part at least

TheHebrewHammer 01-15-2012 12:14 AM

Lol, yes, but Randall has the skills that kills.

wakerpunk 01-15-2012 6:46 AM

chase heavener

texastbird 01-15-2012 7:02 AM

Murray shares his faith and walks the walk.

captain_vilfo 01-15-2012 7:56 AM

I think believing in God is the only thing harris and tebow have in common

gnarslayer 01-15-2012 8:50 AM

no football player deserves the right to be compared to a wakeboarder....

unless they themself wakeboard

TheHebrewHammer 01-15-2012 9:39 AM

I'm sure some do. Anyone know of any football players that wakeboard?

Brian Hartline...receiver from The Ohio State and now w/ the Dolphins. Has a SAN 230 and rides a Watson board

cwb4me 01-15-2012 10:38 AM

Sorry i have great respect for Harris and Murray, but neither would last one play in the NFL.

Gerry Nunn

simplej 01-15-2012 12:04 PM

I would think contracts would keep em off the water

hawkeye7708 01-15-2012 1:08 PM

While he's fallen far on the "likeability" chart for many, there's a video online somewhere on Ben Roethlisberger cruising around on SOME boat with a few guys and they had a few Ronix boards in the rack.

hawkeye7708 01-15-2012 1:08 PM

(Simplej), I also believe that many athletes may have that clause in their paperwork.

bzubke1 01-15-2012 1:18 PM

Doesn't really apply to the religious part of the thread but a big tom brady fan told me he get suspended from the first half or quarter of a football game in college because the coach found out he was wakeboarding. Pretty cool if its true.

JoLo_Si 01-15-2012 2:06 PM

Murray is Definately the closest to Tebow, faith, sharing it with others, likability, down to earth and confidence. It's also funny that most people have a pretty strong opinion of both of these guys, most love them but some hate them.

I agree with their similarity away from their regular sports.Shaun and Tim are both great role models.

I kind of agree it's like comparing apples to oranges here. Wake boarding is about self expression and all that blah blah blah(whatever wake boarding means to you) foot ball is about getting paid big bucks and winning a trophy.

ironj32 01-15-2012 3:33 PM

Murray.

Tim Tebow is a lot easier to hate on than Shaun Murray because he flaunts his faith a lot more and generally gets more attention than his skills/accomplishments warrant. I've never met Murray, but I tend to look at him as wakeboarding's ultimate good guy. By all accounts he's an excellent human being, and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him.

He doesn't flaunt his faith,he expresses his faith.Tebow gets 100 times more media coverage than Shaun, therefore the media flaunts Tebows faith. If you really knew Tebow you would appreciate how down to earth and how giving a person he is.Just like Shaun Murray,he's a stand up guy.But unlike Murray Tebow gets unwanted press coverage.;)

TheHebrewHammer 01-15-2012 5:21 PM

Well put, but he does flaunt his faith. And I wouldn't call Tebow's coverage unwanted. I'm sure he appreciates the celebrity status if for no other reason than the boost in his jersey sales. I know I would.

I wouldn't use the word flaunt. To me that would mean showing off his faith.I prefer to use the phrase" freely expresses his faith".That would be to let everyone know without being ashamed of it.I'm not saying your wrong, just we view his expression of his faith differently.

TheHebrewHammer 01-15-2012 5:45 PM

Ya, makes sense. It's all about perspective.

yeahhh 01-16-2012 9:49 AM

this is a perfect thread to discuss how bro we all are.

Who doesn't like Murray? People might crack on his old school style... but as a human being I've never heard a bad thing about him from a single person.

and whoever said Tebow's skills don't warrant the media attention he gets may have forgotten that around 30 months ago the kid finished up very likely the greatest college football career in the history of the game. It's not surprising that the media would track the progression of arguably the best college football player of all time.

Cam Newton had arguably the greatest single season of all time in his last year and the media has been all over that dude because of the sucess he's had is first year as a pro... is that attention unwarranted too?

Both Cam and Tebow are men of faith and regularly comment on their beliefs. Tebow just happens to be the type of QB that kills it in college, but isn't supposed to suceed in the pro game... so his sucess confuses people... and the faith thing just seems to blow the more liberal leaning medias minds, so they talk about it. Likely because they don't understand it.

Luker 01-19-2012 5:12 AM

FTR - As a UGA guy I think Herschel is the greatest college player of all time... but its hard to discount what Tebow did for 4 years at UF.

joe_crawley 01-23-2012 8:07 AM

It's too bad that Tim Tebow has gotten pigeonholed in this religious context.

Tebow to me is a guy who was a great in college, expected to flop in the pros, exceeded expectations, and was then exposed by a veteran team in his first year in the playoffs.

His religion means about as much to me as how much hair he has on his back, doesn't have **** to do with football. Don't mean to offend, I'm not one ounce religious so I have no idea what would offend.

So who is a junior rider who dominated but then had low expectations in the big league, exceeded them, but ultimately was shown his place for the time being?

Right away it smells like Trevor Hansen, he fits that whole description plus I think the dude is religious.

BamaLurker 01-24-2012 3:04 AM

I understand the murray/tebow comparisons but I've never seen Murray crying on camera.

i have pulled a pro player, he played for patriots, raiders, others? but i forget. not too famous, but he is retired now and pretty set i think. was not advanced wakeboard, but he could almost w2w

i have also pulled a pro basketball team mascot (not in costume). he was pretty good. backrolls and tantrums. he left his autographed towel with me, on purpose? i don't know. i still talk to him a bit. i also ran a 10k race with him in costume as his escort/assistant in case he got too hot.

I think he meant in a sense that both Tebow and Randall are open about their beliefs..

Righteousrider94 02-15-2012 11:12 AM

look up "Shaun Murray - My Story" on YouTube.

tampawake 02-15-2012 12:47 PM

So Jason your saying Randall is no longer professing his Christianity. Must have fallen off the wagon eh.

tonyv420 02-15-2012 2:21 PM

Why do you have a username of westsidarider, and diss the Vandall like that?? You don't know what his heart believes. I'm sure Tebow has not been a saint his whole life either......just sayin
