Reversible Ballast Pump - Ebay

Has anyone had any experience with ballast pumps other than Johnson or Jabsco? I found these on ebay and am wondering if they'd do the trick or simply burn up in a season. Would like to plumb in my rear sacs on my Sanger.

First I've seen of them. Who's going to be the guinea pig?

300 GPH is only 5 gallons per minute, so it is substantially slower than the other offerings which are 9-11 GPM, depending on who you believe.

A gallon weighs 8 pounds, so 5 GPM will fill a 400 pound bag in 10 minutes.

They're less than half the GPH capacity as others.

Also, it's just a re-branded Harbor Freight pump for twice the price. https://www.harborfreight.com/110-hp...ump-63317.html

Interesting. Good catch!

speed (or lack of it) is the biggest issue I see

Lemonade: Not sure where you are located but I saw this the other day.

^ good deal

Wow. $200 for 4?!

I bought one online recently from HF for $41.22 shipped including tax using the 20% discount coupons they publish every week. The ones in the stores here are 120V. You get the 12V ones online. As noted above it's pretty slow filing the sacs. I haven't tried using the reverse capability. You have to manually switch the leads. There is not reversing switch. No idea about how long they last. Haven't used it much.

denverd1 05-25-2017 10:15 AM

switching leads?? forget that

Stazi 05-25-2017 10:26 AM

You could easily wire it to a double pole switch to handle that

fly135 05-25-2017 10:38 AM

I checked eBay. You can get one from Malaysia for $10.39. I might just order one.

Why wouldn't you just hook it up to this and make it look nice.

fly135 05-25-2017 11:16 AM

If it looked nice, it would look out of place on my old boat. LOL

jonblarc7 05-25-2017 11:36 AM

Lol

shawndoggy 05-25-2017 1:30 PM

the HF ones aren't ignition protected either.

My bags and pump are out in open air. So I don't need to worry about that.

jonblarc7 05-25-2017 7:21 PM

It's not that hard to set up two aerator pumps for each bag and they are SOOOOOO much cheaper

agreed. I'm in the minority that prefers aerators.

EXACTLY!!!

Yes, you have to actually think about what you're doing. But once setup right, aerators for the win all day long. Got 6 pumps in my boat. Tsunami 1200s can be had for $30.

and they don't burn out

and if they go bad, the cartridges are easy to replace

and they don't require 12AWG wiring

jonblarc7 05-26-2017 10:47 AM

The ONLY thing I don't like aerators is it can be tricky to set them up to fill while under way. But they are fast enough it doesn't really matter.
