Any Recommendations - Vacuum Oil Pump
 

I am looking at getting one and have absolutely no experience with them. Are they useful, reliable? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

This is the one that I have. It worked great on my merc motor, haven't tried it on my indmar yet.

I have a Pela. It works good. They all use the same principle so you cant go wrong with anyone you find.

I use the same Moeller. Works great!

3rd for the Moeller. Works great for oil, vdrive, and tranny

I use the Moeller. Only negative is its very tippy. Would be better if it had a much wider bottom.

I made one of these. I used the pump from the shower on the boat that we never used. Used it for the first time last season and it pumped the oil out in no time.

go electric if i were you

That electric ones nice but a little pricey. My $60 OilBoy is sufficiently quick and clean. I'd use the $175 somewhere else if I had to do it again unless I'm doing a crapload of oil changes...

I have the Pela one, it works great. I dislike the electric ones because it gives insufficient time to finish my beer.

Dont you know that in chapter 3, title 6, section 4 of the marine and coast guard manual it says there will be no beer consumption while doing any mechanical work within 30 feet of your drivewway or any body of water while any bystanders are chilling in lawn chairs? The Moeller extractor is great, and works even better if you make an adaptor to connect it to the drain hose connected to the oil pan. I also use mine on my car/truck transmissions, lawn equipment, etc. Much easier than a drain pan.

I saw an electric DC at Acadamy sports recently for something like $22.

I believe it is the same one that Overtons sells.

Jabsco, Porta Quick, Oil Change Pump, got it last year of ebay for like 140 shipped....it will pull hot or cold fluid in no time at all...

I just bought a 12 V Jabsco Oil Changer System from West Marine. My battery was pretty low, but did not pull the oil at all... at least over a few minutes and nothing...I am thinking of returning it unless someone here has a good experience with it. Maybe my battery is too low... or, do I need let gravity help? I was trying to pull the oil up to the height of the top of the engine because when the boat is in the garage, I can't snake the oil hose out the drain plug. I checked my connections and I had no vac leaks either.

Connect it to the end of the oil drain hose in the boat (no need to run it through the drain plug). I did this with my moeller pump and it was very easy.

Seeing that Jabsco Porta Quick and another guy above posting about making one yourself makes me think I should just use my extra Simer pump I have for my ballast system.

You Moller guys, those manual ones work good?.... hard to beat $30 if it does the job. I need to know if will work if the oil is cold.

It'll get it out cold but just a little slower.

I have one called a "Suck-Up" (no kidding). It didn't work worth crap with the thin down the dipstick hose, until I installed a fitting that mated up with my oil drain hose. Now it works great.

I have done over 500 fluid services with the shurflow. Thing works great everytime. had the vacumn style first and they were ok. They can have a loss of suction while probing in a trans...where the shurflow always has great suction makes it much better for getting ALL the fluid. Yes it cost a lot more but it really is better. not that that the others dont get it done. Just not as fast or well as the shurflow.

Pella 6000 has always worked well for me. I have zero complaints. We used to have a unit similar to the Shurflow and I hated that thing. I always had trouble getting it to prime and it was top heavy so it was easily tipped over. Not good. Maybe the new shurflows are better. The one I had was over 10 years ago.

No priming issues what so ever with the shurflow. The shurfow is a little top heavy...I have never tipped it over but I could see it happening. But I also keep mine in a milkcrate so its easier to keep all the hoses together and carry all at once. So I have NO tipping issues..because that would be BAD! If the budget is not really an issue trust me the shurflow is the one you want. If your looking for the cheapest way to get it done the vacumn ones are the way to go. I spent about $55 on the vacumn one then I saw the shurflow in action and it was a no brainer for me. Best $150 I have spent on a tool in a long time.
