Add center cushion to front seating older boat

1 Attachment(s)
The newer boats have the center cushion (circles I’m attached pic). My older tige does not have the center cushion. Anyone have pictures or able to take pictures of how the center cushion is installed? Does it rest on the fiberglass that the main front seats rest on? Is there a support screwed to the fiberglass area to support the center cushion? I’m redoing my upholstery and want to add this center cushion and if I need to make front seats a little more narrow or add supports, now is the time for me to do it.

Thanks

Not sure about Tige specifically but there’s usually a lip in the fiberglass seat base for the center pad to rest on. It’s not something that can really be added after the fact unless the boat was designed for one already.

On my Sanger it just rests on the fibreglass and is held sided to side by the seat cushions. If I remember correctly it has a couple rubber blocks to keep it wegded and quiet. I never even carry it in the boat.

So you usually don’t use the middle seat cushion. Is there a reason? Just curious if it’s something I think would be good but didn’t couldn’t come up with any con’s in doing it.

If you don't have a large group of people, or kids, the center pillow is moot. but with kids, its nice to have the playpen area for them. your local show can make one, its easy.

cardboard template, buy fiber board, fiberglass board cut it, glad foam, use a grinder and shape it, have upholstery show cover it and glue, or they will make one for you, you may be able to still buy one new?

Get some marine plywood and make a cut out and take it to a upholstery shop. My 09ve didn't come with one and it's on my too do list to add as well. The older Tige bows are quite narrow so having the center cushion would be nice to have IMO.

JJennings, when my kids were littler they would use it as they just sprawled every which way. Now they usually face froward and the middle has no cushioning under the walkway windshield so it does not get used. The walkway is easier access without the cushion. If you have it it gives you an option so that is a real benefit. I just don't use it as it makes movement easier.

I'm with rallyart. We had the center cushion in our last boat and it was not removable. We were not a fan. The center bow cushion is removable in our new boat and we never use it. It is much nicer to have a walkway and my kids and their friends prefer sitting on the seat with their feet on the floor. Now adults can use the bow too. With the center cushion, no adult ever used the bow because it was a lot more of a pain to get in and out gracefully.

looked at adding one to my bow. was even going to put a sub under there, firing toward the stern. but decided against it. shouldn't be too hard to fab up, but making it look original and functional was my issue.

I'll be doing thay when I reupholster my boat . I keep putting it off as I just want my kids to be a little older and less destructive lol.
