Rub Rail

Curious if anyone here has ever installed a new rub rail on their boat. I need to replace mine, not just the insert, but the whole thing. Seems like a big job, but my shop gave me a rough estimate, which was rough for me to hear! :banghead:

Been there. If yours is all rubber, you're gonna need heat-meaning the sun. Plan to spend a good part of the day doing it. There's a fine balance between pulling too hard and not enough as you're installing it. It's a two person job.

Yup I have done it let me gues they told you $1000 + dollars

the rough estimate was "at least $700"

I guess it depends on how much you can get the parts for, how much time you have, what your time is worth and how much skill you have.

does anyone have a good source for parts? I have a tan rubrail( the insert and the backing that attatches to the boat) i'd like to change to black.. It looks like one long piece with the ends meeting up in the back and a cover over the seams. The boat is a 23' mastercraft

I hear iboats.com or west marine is a great source for them. If anyone is in So Cal and has experience doing this and wanting to make a few extra bucks I would rather pay you than the shop!

I read somewhere on here along time ago about soaking the rub rail in a 5 gallon buck of really hot water before you put it on. To make it easier to work with.

Pretty sure Taco marine has all the rubrails ever made.

Laying it out on a warm, sunny driveway for an hour worked well for me.

soak it in hot water and use a rubber mallet. It's really not that hard to be honest.

just bring the boat to Arizona in the summer and do it , its pretty simple.
