About 10 years ago we were up Cedar or Knowles Canyon. Houseboat was safe but old Malibu was anchored underneath an overhang. Massive storm comes up and thankfully the more experienced crew knew what was coming so hurried and pulled out the boat. We hadn't felt any more than a sprinkle of rain but within 5 minutes, we had a massive waterfall run off the overhang. It was shocking and scary and just unreal, so much power. We would have lost the malibu without that quick thinking. Powell is as beautiful place but can be crazy dangerous.

We were just there from 9/12-19. By the end of our week one of our houseboat anchors went from being on shore to being under water. Lake came up AT LEAST a foot if not more. Learned that lesson the hard way. It is hard as hell to dig up an anchor that is under water!!!!

Crazy weather on LP. My one and only houseboat trip there and a storm started brewing. You could see the wind and the rain coming down the canyon. We had the houseboat beached and two wakeboarding boats tied to the back. Before we knew it the wind had pushed the houseboat and our anchors pulled free. We scrabbled to untie the wake boats as the back end of the houseboat was being pushed towards some rocks. Got the boats loose but had a heck of a time swimming down and recovering the anchors that got pulled out in the lake. It's crazy how fast storms can pop up on that lake.

The wake movie Mayday had be well prepared for the craziness that can happen at Lake Powell.

I was there for that same storm. It was absolutely awesome...like faucets getting turned on and off in seconds when the rain dumped.
