will this boat work?
my dad has a 1977 Imperial with a 1978 Johnson Motor 75 HP, at least that's what he tells me it is, anyways would this boat be able to work for wake boarding and would I be able to put a tower on it?

In a way any boat will work, what do you want out of it? A 75 may have a bit of a hard time out of the hole with someone in the water. As far as a tower it all depends on the construction and how thick the fiberglass/ material of the gunnels is that you would be mounting too. You may have to reinforce those areas.
ultimately, whatever gets you out on the water. You'll still be ahead of someone without a boat! |
Sure it'll work. Get up & ride. I wouldn't waste your money putting a tower on it. Ride for a year or two and when you're getting much better, start begging Dad for an inboard!
|
I hope so, I'll see if I can get some photos of it and maybe you guys can give some advice on a tower
|
heck yes it will. i started riding behind a 14 ft alum. jon boat with a 25 HP envinrude jet drive outboard on it. we rode the sh*t outta that thing every day. get out there and start riding!

Andy's totally right, anything that will pull you works. Tower might be a waste, designed to give you lift on tricks, etc, if you don't have the wake to support it, it just becomes extra weight to rob power. Get out an ride!!!

I would be out there riding right now but sadly don't have nothing to pull it yet. But my dad is going to be getting a hitch installed onto his car and so to expedite this installation I told him I would pay for it as long as we could get it done this week so hopefully I'll be riding next weekend!

is there anyway to give the motor a little more power with out actually buying a new motor?
|
you can reprop an outboard for more torque.
I started on a 1980's fish and ski Gayliner, trophy bass, 6in of freeboard with the sacks of cement in it, 125hp outboard and a tripod ski tower thingy. It did the job we needed it to at the time. |
Thats more HP than a winch.
