Sub\walkthrough seat build.
 

One of my winter projects for this year is to get my sub out from the passenger locker and build a bow filler seat\sub enclosure. I'd really like to have the back end flip up to make a playpen / third seat for the bow. Anyone know where I could get some of those brackets/hinges? Or maybe someone out there has done this already and has some pictures or plans.

Are you taking about like whats used on some Bu's and CC's for seat bottom thats flips up to be a seat back lounge? Use a regular hinge and make a kickstand for the seat back.

Thats what i was thinking/planning just want to find something that doesnt look too cheap/thrown together.

What boat is this for? I have an MC 205v that I made one for. One of the best projects I've done for it. It fills up the bow but still allows lounging space. Which is used for bow sac 95% of the time since no one sits up there.

I just took measurements, cut them into cardboard to ensure fit, allowed space for carpet and draining, and transfered it to 3/4" MDF which I coated with a few coats of polyurethane to waterproof it, then carpeted over it and added some standoffs for drainage. I put a 12" Polk DB1240DVC.

Thanks for the pic. Probably easier to do it that way......just make a lounge seat. I was trying to make it more complicated than it had to be. Although with what you've built I would prob still want a filler cushion to finish it off.

I have flip up backrests on both sides of my playpen bow entrance. Lemme know if you want pics of now the Moomba OEM XLV does it.

One thing that I really like is the fact that the front flip up seat is right under the windshield and effectively becomes a windblock. It's of course not an airtight seal between the windshield and the rest of the cabin, but it blocks most of the wind to the point where I don't need to think about a walkthrough windblock type solution.

On my last boat, I put a subwoofer box as a jump seat next to my observer seat. I basically used the legally required "throw" as my cushion (I found a snap in housing for it).


In your case, I'd build a box, and get two upholstered squares like I have on my XLV and do the hinges. It's pretty cool to have. In fact, having a playpen bow with seating like I do was a requirement when I upgraded boats.

Man, I miss the layout of my XLV. Such a great interior, especially for a budget boat.

Did you ever have anyone attempt the BIG step up and put their trailing foot into the sub? I'd be nervous.

Is advise a guard but I never had a problem. Idk about the new owner though..... :D

Looked good Bryce. Do you remember how much the upholstery part of that cost? Momma might go for that.

Less then 150 I believe. That included foam and the diamond stitching and vinyl. I left about a 1/4" gap around my trim pieces to allow for vinyl.

I dont understand this-does it not get awkwardly frustrating having to climb over the sub to get upfront? thats the whole point of a walkthrough right? unless no one sits up front?

For me it will add an additional seat. I'll get the storage space from under the passenger seat back so its a win/win. It's not that big of a step when you have the seat on the front side. But i think im going for more of the moomba/axis flip up seat rather than the permanent step over.

Yeah, I wouldn't want the big high stepover like the white one pictured. On mine, the area is the same level as the rest of the observer and bow seating. (hence the term "playpen bow".)

Even on my Supra, I kept it all the same height as the seating. I did that one cheap and easy. pre-made sub box with a cushion that would snap on. You can see it between the drivers and observer seat and how it flowed with the rest of the boat's seating.

I never really proceeded with that project... I just bought a new boat instead!

finally got mine started

Just some cleanup and get the seat covered and the brackets installed. I think it will turn out pretty well.

I plan to start one for my X30 I'm a few weeks. We still have a few months till summer up in canada. We did a similar one in my friends Mojo and it turned out amazing.

I like the way it's coming along. It looks like the angle is a little made for laying than sitting, but that works as well for the bow, I guess. Chicks love the bow, giving them a good place to lay out in their bikinis right in the view of the driver is a smart move :) :thumbs up

Yeah thats the plan... a flip up. The brackets are on the way. I really wanted it flat all the way back, but at only 6 inches tall it was almost impossible to get a 12 in there so i went with the box you see.

Finally got around to finishing. Didnt turn out as well as i had hoped but it works.
