DIfferences in 2005 Supra launch 21V and Launch 22SSV?

Can someone tell me the difference outside of the length? How are the wakes on these boats. I am looking at both and the ones i found had a pretty drastic price differene with similar hours. I was just wondering what the reason might be.

i have ridden the launch 21 and launch 21v quite a bit, the wake gets big with a smaller amount of weight than the 22. the 21 is more steep of a wake than the 22 but you can always trim it up. 21v is not a bad boat to choose, but if you need a little extra room go for the 22.

i honestly think the 21v is a better bang for the buck though

Are both boats 2005? There was a hull change in 2007 on the 22SSV and it became a much bigger boat and different wake. Here are the basics assuming they are both 2005 model year.
Both will create an awesome wake and can easily upgrade both of them to plumbed gravity games bags.
The 22SSV could be a decent crossover boat and the 21V will be more hardcore wakeboard boat
The 21V will have a much higher freeboard. Feels deeper and is deeper. Handles rough water much better.
The 21V will have WAY more storage space. The 2005 22SSV was pretty light on storage space and especially if you upgrade your ballast.
The 21V was a new boat in 2005 so it was not as nimble as the 21V of today, but is an awesome boat.
Wake will be a bit steeper on the 21V, but alot of this depends on how you will weight them. They both like more weight up front. Get the gravity games bag up front on either of the boats.
The 22ssv might be bigger, but it will not live bigger cause of the low free board and lack of storage. They will probably live pretty similar in size.
Both great boats but would need a real comparison to tell you what is a better deal. Hours? Colors? Options? Condition?

This is the boat I am looking at. Doesnt this seem pretty cheap for this boat? Is it possible it isn't a launch?

All of the 21V's were launches. They did not make a sunsport 21V until 2010 I think... Might be wrong, but it has all the goodies. Price seems pretty good. See what size bags are installed. Make sure the board racks are working good. They had a few issues back in those days. Very solid boat and puts out a great wake.

heres a sweet pic i got behind our 21 launch a few days ago, unfortunately not a v drive, but it is the same hull!
were running stock ballast with just a driver at 23.5 mph. the wake kicks super good

imagine if it were the v drive and sacked out, we would be goin LARGE!

Just reiterating what's been said already but if it's an '05 22v there were significant changes made in 2007. The 22v in '05 has a really low freeboard and feels alot more narrow. Still makes a good wake, I used to ride behind one pretty regularly, but nothing compared to the 21v IMO. With that said, I'm a gigantic fan of the 21v wake because I loved the abruptness of the steep wake so others might disagree with me. That's a hell of a deal for the 21v, I'd be all over that!

in in Houston i was thinking about before i bought my 2013 21v

luke22885 07-19-2013 6:27 AM

I bought an 05 2 years ago with 300 hours for 28k. Have not been able to find one for that price since.

bigd154885 07-19-2013 7:48 AM

I can get this 2005 supra 21V with 105 hours for 25k So this must be a good deal??

Darren

scotthons 07-19-2013 7:49 AM

I bought an 06 21V three years ago with 200 hours for $26k which I felt was a freakin steal. Great boats. Love mine and good luck!

tyler97217 07-19-2013 10:20 AM

Scott..... I still remember the day you stole that from me........ Damn.... That was a good deal then, but in today's world that is a steal. Prices are way up on the West Coast. An 05' with 105 hours in Oregon would bring over $30K for sure right now. I would say listing prices should be between $30-$35K

bigd154885 07-19-2013 10:52 AM

Thanks guys I am going to get the boat August 1st I will send some pics to show you the deal I got. Looking forward to having some fun.
One other question is the 2005 supra is there a 21v and 21v launch is there a difference??

Darren

scotthons 07-19-2013 1:00 PM

Diggs, yeah I was almost positive someone was going to come in and offer more money while I was making my drive. I thank you for not doing that :D

Might mean the difference between having the playpen up front with ballast bag under the playpen or being able to walk up through the bow area. I thought they called that Sunsport versus Launch with the Launch having the playpen area.

mikebu 07-19-2013 1:54 PM

The picture above of the 2008 Supra 22 is what I would call the Sunsport model.

The is a Launch with the playpen:

scotthons 07-19-2013 2:11 PM

I may be wrong, but I think there was only a Launch 21 which was a direct drive and the Launch 21V. I don't think there was just a 21V.

tinytdubb 07-19-2013 4:12 PM

I bought my 05 Supra Launch 21V with 71.8 hrs. for 33k out the door with PP stargazer. VERY satisfied with it. Great all around boat. Just as advertised by fellow Wakeworlders. Here the thread I started when I bought mine. Lots of great info in here. You are getting a steal of a deal.

Scott is correct above about the models of the 21 in thst year. Sunsport 21 came out in 09 I think.
