Just blew my knee out.

Super bummed I just blew my knee out. This is the 5th time since wakeboarding and the 1st time on this leg. No worse feeling than floating in the water hurt.

jfergus7 07-02-2014 4:21 PM

Man that really sucks. Hope it isn't to serious. I had knee surgery last summer and it sucked. Hoping to get back on a board for this first time since then this weekend! Went out and purchased a new Ronix One yesterday to celebrate the event!

dyost 07-02-2014 4:33 PM

Is that a typo or are you saying you have blown your other knee FOUR TIMES??
do you have any cartilage left? ACLs are replaceable parts to some degree but there is definitely a limit.

If I read you right, I'm impressed...... One was enough for me and I pray I never do it again.....

dyost 07-02-2014 4:34 PM

Oh, and in any case here's to a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

dezul 07-02-2014 5:19 PM

Godspeed for a fast recovery.

It's no typo haha the first time was a fractured growth plate that landed me in a locked brace for 6 weeks. The other three times I completely dislocated my kneecap and tore my meniscus. This time I fell, and my knee totally dislocated. I grabbed it in pain and it popped back into place. It immediately swelled up bigger than a softball. I don't get an MRI until the 10th.

Two time ACL on my right knee. Wishing you the best with your surgery and recovery.

markj 07-02-2014 11:35 PM

^^^ ditto exactly.

simplej 07-03-2014 3:33 AM

Still coming back from my first ACL.
Rock some CTi's!

It's a terrible feeling.
Protip- do 3 months of prehab if you can and lift as hard as possible. Makes the muscle nice and big, nice and pliable. I took this route because I was functional ACL deficient, went 5 months though. I wish I had done it at 3. Made my hamstring dense and pliable and was able to reach 120* 3 days after surgery. Hardly lost any quad as well except for the old VMO

All that said best of luck to you!!! Let us know how it goes

bboozer 07-03-2014 7:30 AM

"welcome to therapy" As they say here. I am at rehab right now for my torn quad tendon. Good luck with your recovery.

tn_rider 07-03-2014 7:34 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I'm not going to let this keep me from being on the water. I'll just be the dd from now on. My days of riding hard are over. Looks like I need me a surf system equipped boat ;)

Maybe you could just scale it back a bit. They need to change that slogan from "Go Big or Go Home" to "Go Big and Go Home".

riddick 07-03-2014 11:12 AM

Bummer man, hate to hear that. I've done 2 acls in the same knee myself. On the bright side, It won't be as bad as the first time. You've been through the process before and know what it takes to get back at it. Best of luck to you

bcrider 07-03-2014 12:12 PM

How many of you are the ones that also rag on surfing.lol. Soon you will become part of the surfing club! I've thankfully never hurt my knees although they make some pretty gross noises nowadays getting up from a full squat and my lower back doesn't like me.

Heal up! Permanent boat driver for the rest of the season.

jarrod 07-03-2014 1:07 PM

Man, some of you guys are troopers.

dyost 07-03-2014 6:03 PM

I am definitely in the rag on surfing bunch...... haha. **** is gonna happen but if you rehab hard, take care of yourself, and respect your limits as you get older you can ride hard at a high level for a very long time. Just spent a weekend with my buddy (who just turned 50) and still rocks rolls to reverts, 3's and a bunch of style grabs/180s BS180s. He's a better rider than some in the crew almost 1/2 his age. He rides smart, lands on the wake, knows his limits, and knows how to fall/bail without getting hurt.

I'll never subscribe to the "have to surf cause I'm old" clause.... 32 now, when I watch my buddy ride I get another 18 lease on wakeboarding that gets me stoked every time. When he quits and starts to surf I'll know there is an eventual end to my fun too.....

bcd 07-03-2014 6:41 PM

That's what slalom is for

Bakes 07-03-2014 8:33 PM

Just switch to the hydrofoil. Way better than surfing.

Dustin, I'm 58 so you can add another 8 years to your lease.:)

dyost 07-04-2014 8:48 AM

Right on John, seen vids of you ripping at OWC showing the youn'ins what's up.

simplej 07-04-2014 10:10 AM

^ didn't realize at the time but I saw you too.
KEEP SHREDDING.

phathom 07-05-2014 1:01 AM

Ouch! I hope it heals up quickly. Maybe you should look into wakesurfing and save your knees.
