02 xstar surfing and board

Ok guys never have surfed but want to do some this summer. How do I set up my Xstar and whats the best board for that boat as I am sure its not the best for surfing.

I have that same boat. It's notoriously difficult to surf without setting it up correctly, the 205V hull can make a great wave with loads of push but it all in the set up. I have spent countless hours dialing my boat in to make the perfect surf wave for that hull. Full disclosure that I am one of the owners of NautiCurl Wake Shaper, not using this as a shameless plug but I obviously use my shaper on my boat.

Here is my set up-

I put two 750lb Fat Sacs on either side of the engine.
One 750lb on the floor centered between the drive seat and the passenger seats.
400lb sac in the bow walk way.
Fill the internal center 350lb
400lbs of Lead Wake under the seats (200lbs stern, 200lbs bow
I also fill a fat brick 155lbs to move around the boat as needed to keep it evenly weighted down.
Finally, I attach a NautiCurl wake shaper to the opposite side we are surfing, I mount this with the top edge about 2" out of the water and about 1.5 feet before the end of the stern.

Here's a quick clip of the before and after on my 2000 X-Star
