Indmar Raw Water Pump removal...help needed
 

Hey yall, lookin for some help on a problem

Workin on a 00 wakesetter thats been sittin for the last 2 years. Small block chevy indmar.

Raw water pump shaft bearing was shot, after some quick researching, saw it was best to just replace the entire unit vs. rebuilding. Removed the bolts from the bracket and base where it sits on top of the pulley and went to knock it off, which is where the problem starts. The housing knocked loose but the shaft stayed on the pulley. The boat is used in brackish water 95% of the time and the base is nicely rusted. Any ideas for getting this off the pulley? Is there something I've missed? Soaked it in solvents but no luck yet. Thanks in advance

PB Blaster over the course of several hours. Then, vibration with a hammer or some other instrument to loosen it up. Last is heat - you can ruin the seals in the block. If you do use heat, plan on replacing the seals. When you re-assemble, polish with sandpaper to remove corrosion and pitting and use brake caliper grease on the shaft to prevent future corrosion.

I spray down my motor once month with PB Blaster to keep it looking good and prevent corrosion.

Ya, I figured just soak it some more then we'll hook it up to the 20 ton overhoad crane and finesse it loose:D Really just wanted to make sure that there wasnt something I had overlooked. I refuse to stick a torch in that engine compartment, dont wanna have to pull the motor either. we're just anxious to get her back on the water

I believe there are three to four allen bolts holding it onto the pulley. Have you removed those? Id tap it a couple times all around the shaft with a rubber hammer to see if it breaks loose after those bolts have been removed.

All the bolts are out. We've used mallets and 2lb hammers trying to knock that thing off

Is it pretty accessible? You could grind it out with a dremel. Maybe don't go all the way through with it, but grind through it enough to pry/crack it off.

Its pretty tight down there and I'd rather not stick a dremel that close to the pulley its stuck on. I'm thinking after soaking it in PB, using a small cheater pipe over the shaft and try knocking ti loose. If that doesnt work, we'll slip a strap around it and hook it up to the crane and pull on it ever so slowly, shouldnt take much with that

BTW, a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF works about 300% better and faster than any penetrating oil you buy in the store. Including PB blaster.

As for the pump? get a bigger hammer.

If it is like mine, it has to come out evenly. It sits in a grooved area. after the 3 bolts, and bracket, you have to use a hammer and tap it from side to side.
