20' inboard for under 20k

Does anyone have any suggestions on a 19-20' wakeboard boat that has a decent wake and may be able to wake surf off it also. I'll put fat sacks in if necessary I also have a length and draft restriction at my dock so thats why I can't go over 20.5 or 24" draft. The following are boats I've found that have met my requirements but never been on so would like some input on these as well.

2002-2003 sportster LX with tower and wedge
2006 20 gts gekko
2000-2002 moomba kanga and outback
1998-2000 master craft 205v or 196

If you were closer I would have you look at mine. Its an 02 Moomba LSV, PP, Triple ballast with 750 bags in the rear, Kicker 6500.2 with extra mids, interior redone, tandem trailer, and more I am sure that I am forgetting. I am going to list it for $21,500 over winter and into spring.

Too bad you are not close to SC either. Looking for simiiar setup and price range.

dont buy a sportster, we called my buddys the submarine

petrey10 07-19-2012 6:01 AM

if you don't mind Direct Drive I got a Tige 20i I would sell for 13,500. Mark I would take you up on that boat if you were closer to IL

petrey10 07-19-2012 6:02 AM

shoot I see you are in WI.... I could drive that far!!

Raf1985 07-19-2012 7:27 AM

You might want to pass on the gekko as well.........

xstarrider 07-19-2012 7:30 AM

I would ditch the sportster, the gekko, and the kanga. Not even close to a good boat for boarding.

The mc 205v is 20ft 7inch. If u can swing it that would be ideal.
An older momba outback lsv is 20ft 8inch
Also the Mastercraft prostar 195 has a very respectable wakeboard wake at 19ft and change even though its a direct drive.

Raf1985 07-19-2012 7:55 AM

Why hasn't anyone mentioned an older Nautique super sport or SAN? I have seen the supersport for around 15k and SAN for around 20k

mark197 07-19-2012 9:43 AM

Pete hit me up in spring. I am going to use it the rest of the year. It will have about 900hrs on at that point.

cause its 21'2" without a platform.
a 2001 nautique wake will kill a mastercraft 195 wake

kskonn 07-19-2012 2:41 PM

^^^ I would agree, the 205V hull from Mastercraft would be ideal, my buddies 1991 19ft CC direct drive throws a a good wake with some weght. only problem is would be on board space.

Raf1985 07-19-2012 4:54 PM

Oh yeah I forgot about the length limit. If it were me, I would take a few inches off the nose to make it legit.

xstarrider 07-19-2012 5:13 PM

Aso throw in a ski centurion cyclone 20ftr with huge steep stock wake and a phenomenal surf wake.

Without a doubt the late 80's Nautique 2001 models are awesome for boarding. Never surfed one tho

You can get an SN2001 make all the repairs and upgrades you want and still be under 15K. It measures almost exactly 20' from tip to platform tail and makes a killer wake. Clearly a little tight inside but that doesn't seam to bother me or my company at all. Mines even got a custom sundeck and rear seat to hide the ballast and it makes a nice lounge for the ladies.

Less people in the boat makes more time for riding and less time for waiting for people to show up at the dock. first come first serve.

Can the OP please confirm if the boat can only be a max of 20'5" exactly or can that be fudged? Also, will they measure the overall length and include the platform? Is the draft limit of 24" because that water is only 24" deep or because the marina puts that limit on it and checks specs. Are they going to look at factory specs when considering your boat or can you fudge a little.

You may be able to get away with a Mastercraft Xstar(205V) because it is 20'7" but the name could imply 20'5"(205V). It also has a draft of 22". These obviously create great wakes. The 205 direct drive is the same hull(96 and later) so I would consider those as well. If you can fudge a little Sanger V210's or DLX's might be an option but they are 20'8" with 26" drafts. Looks like the Centurion Cyclone is 20'8" and has a 29" draft. Not sure if it is true but one website says the Tige 20v or switch v are 20' exactly and have a max draft of 18". That seems pretty shallow though and almost doesnt' sound right. Another boat to consider is the Calabria Cal-Air direct drive. IT is a 19'6" direct drive boat. No ide aon draft but my guess is less teh 24". I had one and the fit and finish was nice and they come with 700 pounds or so of quick fill ballast. They also have a huge rear trunk since the fuel tank is up front. This give you a ton of room for probably a 750# sac or so. Most I have seen come with PP, tower, 315hp FI engine, nice cover, tandem trailer, tower, board racks, bimini, etc.. You might be able to find one on the west coast for 20ish. Only reason I sold it was because the bow is close to the water and I packed the boat with people too much. It likes to dip the nose for sure. It is the roomiest sub 20' direct drive you will find though. Not sure you can get them that cheap but what about the Supreme V208?

As far as older direct drive ski boats I think the 80's Supra sunsports are 20' or less. That would eb a great choice and should be at or under 10k with it clena and setu ppretty solid. The Nautique 2001 is obviously a great wake hull for a small direct drive. I had one of those as well. With a 1000-2000 pounds of ballast they are great. Not sure what the length of the huydrodyne grand sport open bow is but it is right around 20'. That is a great boat and capable wake machine. Also, swatguy mentioned the prostar 195. This is the same hull as teh 95-97 prostar 190, X5, skier 190(late 90's-early 2000's I think). This hull is basically a small version of the 205/205v hull mentioned above. They are capable of throwing good wakes. The biggest downfall is that like the 2001 nautique there will be sacs on teh floor.

wakebordr11 07-20-2012 12:17 PM

I thought the Prostar 205 was the same hull since it came out in 92?

1992-1995 was a different hull then the 96-end of 205 production. I know the 92-95 is not considered as good of a wakeboat but that might have a lot to do with the 96-on being deeper(can add more weight), heavier(already starts deeper in the water), etc... I think the hull itself is actually better for wakeboarding then the 92-95 though. I could be wrong but I think the 92-95 205 was slightly better for skiing then the 96-on.

wakebordr11 07-20-2012 4:13 PM

Darn, you're right. I stand corrected!

xstarrider 07-20-2012 7:12 PM

Polar is right,

The 195 is kind of its own unique hull. It had a limited run and was designed with the 205 in mind to give you a more all around boat in a smaller package.

However the 190 skier was not related to the 195 hull IIRC The 195 had high gunwales and a deeper boow more like a 205 style than the 190 style of low gunwales and a low profile bow.

polarbill 07-20-2012 7:35 PM

Swatguy, even the 195 had the same hull(running surface as the 95-97 prostar 190). You are right that it had an open bow and the deck in the bow was flared up a little but I am pretty positive it is still the same hull as the 95-97 prostar 190, 98-2000 sportstar(closed bow), 2001-2002 190 skier, 99 sportstar(open bow), 2000-2001 prostar 195, 2000-2001 X5(open bow) and 2002 X5(closed bow).

xstarrider 07-21-2012 8:13 PM

I stand corrected. I knew it was based off those boats but I could have swore the running surface was different. When you put all those boats next to each other the 195/ X5 will stand out with its tall sides and deep, non comp boat, style lines. Always great for the extra ballast.
