3M Paint defender - boat use?
Looking for a way to prevent transom nicks from wakeboards and surf-on dings.
Anybody used this product? Not sure how it would hold up in water use or how tough. http://youtu.be/1FiS26L5nHM |
That looks awesome. Doesn't seem too expensive either at $45 on Amazon for the whole kit. Not sure you even need the whole kit though. You probably just need the spray can for $25.

That is actually pretty cool. Not sure how it would work on gel coat. If that doesn't work out for you go down to a local dealer and see if they have some extra sea deck pieces laying around. Or just order a few strips of sea deck and put them on the transom of your boat. Sea Deck does all kinds of custom stuff too

I run a 6 mil clear vinyl with the name of the boat printed on it then a 2 mil laminate over it.. This works great on minor hits but if someone hits it hard enough, there may be little gel damage ( hasn't happened yet).. The 3M product is very thin ( maybe 1 or 2 mil) so it will puncture easier and get damaged easier than going out and getting a 4 mil real paint protection product.. We have used the 3M and its a good quick and easy spray product... :)

Never seen one of those - I assume you have to remove that for trailering? Where did you get it?

I'm not sure if they stock it any more. I normally only trailer 3 minutes from my house. I have left it on by accident for a couple hours of trailering when vacationing last year with no issues at all. I'd remove it for long distance trailering but not for short stuff...it is very easy to put on and remove. I don't have it adjusted real well in that picture as it usually sits a bit flatter than that on the transom. If I ever need to replace it (doubtful as it is holding up well) I'd probably go with this one if they ever make another batch: http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/...5-transom-pad/ |
