Good 6 channel Amp
 

I am looking for idea's for a decent 6 channel amp. This is for my cruiser and I'm not looking to spend Wet Sounds type money. I plan to run 6-6.5 Kicker 43KM654LCW which are rated at 65 RMS and 195 peak 4 ohms. I'd like to drive them close to the 65RMS.

Only option I have found is the kicker 450.6. But I don't like that it lists power at 75x6 at 2 ohms. I plan to have just one speaker per channel so @ 4 ohm. Doesn't list power for 4 ohm. Anyone have any cause what rated power is at 4 ohms?

Does not have to be a marine amp as it will be mounted inside the cabin.

Ideas??

Roswell has a 900.6 Amp that is new in their lineup. List price is $595 but i could probably get you a deal on one. Not sure what you were looking to spend.

Is there are particular reason you need to run 6 x 4 ohm? The new Kicker 450.6 delivers 40W rms x 4 ohm. I would not get too hung up on RMS. If you want to really push them to their potential, you need to look for an amp thats 4 ohm rms is well north of 100W. If you are not looking to drive the snot out of them, 50W rms or more to a speaker is fine. Basically, id want a quality wattage over cheap wattage.

Nope. I just bought longevity wise it was always better to run an amp at 4 ohms. Just figured 6 speakers to run, that a 6 channel would be best. If there is another better option I am certainly open to it.

I plan to run the 6 kicker 6.5 in boats and a single 12 inch sub. Really would like that to be off 2 amps.

So then why not go a 5 channel and a smaller 2 channel. Unless youre gonna have the need for the sub to be over 500. Lots of options at that point.

I had a Memphis prx 5.550 50 x 4 and 300 x1 in my sons jeep......think I got it onsale for around 200. Its not the best amp but it was pretty decent has some decent adjustability and a separate bass knob.

As long as you do not need 3 zone volume control, then consider a 4 chnl marine amp. No issue at all for a quality marine 4 chnl amp to drive 3 pair of 4 ohm speakers. What you might think you gain in longevity by running a very budget friendly 6 chnl in 4 ohm x 6, you can very well lose in build quality. Whats to say that price-point 6 chnl has more heat sink and a more robust power supply, then the better built marine 4 chnl. Ill take 50 quality watts over 100 cheap watts any day.

With a sub coming into the equation, you might be able to spread out your budget by going with a 4 or 6 chnl amp that can drive your 6 in-boats and woofer. So now a $600 HTX-6 marine 6 chnl isnt looking to bad. Or even the Syn-DX6 for a higher output system with 100W rms for each speaker and 600W for a woofer. one amp to wire and install over two can same some time and cost on incidentals.

For a boat that lives on the water, ID suggest a marine amp.

Please excuse my ignorance and the dumb questions I am going to ask. Part of the reason I wanted to run 6 speakers to a 6 channel amp is I am comfortable with that and know how to wire it.

So say I bought a HTX-6. Its rated 150x6 2 ohm stereo. Also 3x300 4 ohm mono (bridged). So can I run channels 1-4 2 ohm stereo with 2 speakers per channel for a 2 ohm load, them bridge channel 5-6 with a 4 ohm sub running 4 ohm mono for 300 watts.

So to get a 2 ohm load I just wire 2 speakers into 1 channel on the amp? Both positives into the positive terminal and both negatives into the negative? Then each speaker will see 75 watts? So then I have 2 speakers in channel 1, channel 2, and channel 3. Then channel 4 is empty. Then the sub in channel 5-6 bridged?

Is my logic correct or can't the amp be split like that?

Real close. Beak it down as a 4 chnl amp and 2 chnl amp. Bridged 4 ohm woofer = 300W, you got that.

For 1-4, I would put one pair on say chnls 1 and 2 @ 4 ohm stereo. And then one pair on 3 @ 2 ohm then last pair on 4 @ 2 ohm. Set gains accordingly.

Ive been haveing good luck with rockville amps in budget systems.
