Hey Guys,
I have a problem, need to replace a clarion headunit (came stock in a 2000 X5) with wired remote. The units dead so will have to go, problem is, I can't find any standard single din head units to replace (sticking to marine).

Those who are familiar with the X5 glovebox will know you can't get the larger units (Fusion IP series, Clarion CMD/XMD, etc etc) in without looking goofy.

Anyone know of any decent single din units that will take a wired remote? I'm stuck!

Cheers!

Search ebay...

Also look at the MB Quart NRA 450...uses the same remote's.

As in the MB quart uses the Clarion remotes? Thatd be useful...

murphy_smith 09-22-2008 7:59 AM

The remotes are exactly the same looking and the connections are exactly the same.

I am not 100% sure they are compatible...hopefully someone on this forum will chime in.

From what I have heard, the remotes are just the same size is all. So they will not work.

Brit, check out the Alpine units. They have 2 single din marine units. Alpine has always made really good head units.

FYI, The MB Quart of now is not the same old MB Quart those in the audio business for a long time knew. It has been bought and sold a couple times over the last years. It is owned by Maxxsonics, same as Crunch and Hifonics etc.

Tim
Wet Sounds

The Clarion M475 is a current marine source unit with the standard DIN (2”x7”) cut-out.

In 2000 they only had 2-inch remotes. The new Alpine is a 3-inch. This would mean cutting plus new wiring.

It’s easiest to stick with the Clarion which is triple preamp out and well featured.

David E. M.

The clarion websites only showing me the CMD5? Anyone able to give me pointers on where to source the M475? And can I plug a remote into this?

I had the MB Quart NRA 450 for a while in my last boat. I paid way too much and the thing is a piece of crap... and I wouldn't recommend it at any price. I went through three or four repairs on two units in a single season, before I finally dropped it in the trash.

Yup Clarion m475 Check Ebay if you can't find it anywhere else. What I run in my 2000 X-Star. Same glovebox setup if I recall

Crutchfield.com and etronics.com have the clarion M475 I just ordered one for my 1999 X-star

Looks like a good option, just hope it works with the old remote that in the boat. Looks like there's plenty of options at least!

For some reason, Clarion UK only seem to offer the CMD5.. odd.

I'll give it a whirl and see how it works out.

Thanks again!
