What to buy under $70K?
 

I’m looking to buy a boat. Wakeboard and surf. No big crews, just me and a few friends. I’m partial to Malibu, I “grew up” (in my 20’s) behind a 2000 Wakewetter. I’m debating a 2018 Axis A20, a 2014 Wakewetter VLX 21, 2011 VTX. The VTX is 15K cheaper than the first two. Thoughts?

Any reason why you want a 20/21 foot?

I owned 2 Axis A22s. A 15 and a 16. They were great boats. I think the popular opinion is......if you're going to spend more time surfing you want the T, and if you're going to mostly wakeboard you want the A. I personally never surf so I don't have any experience in that department.

Other things I've heard but not experienced.....the VTX does not produce a great wake by comparison. The VLX is a win all around.

Thanks, I wakeboard more than surf but, sadly, I’m getting older so see more surfing in my future. I’m looking at the smaller boats because 1) That’s just what I’ve come across and 2) Storage. I’m in Vegas and finding indoor storage that will fit a 22 ft boat has been tough. Now, I would be more than happy for someone to chime in here and prove me wrong on Vegas area storage. 😁

They're like so close it almost doesn't matter.

T is slightly rampier, A is slightly steeper.

T surf wave is slightly longer but not as tall, the A is the opposite.

Maybe look at Sanger .

I been shopping around 70k as well. Moomba MAX has been looking the best to me so far. But if thats a bit big you could look at the mondo and helix for under 70k. At the boat show we didnt really like the axis fit/finish and interior. The NXT line from mastercraft was nice but seemed a little basic. We took a tour of the skierschoice factory a few weeks ago and were really impressed. We will start demoing in a few weeks to figure out exactly what we want.

I'm shopping in a similar price range and having a surprisingly hard time answering a few basic questions about the Axis boats - maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places?

In any case, hoping someone who has some experience with Axis can tell me:
How much (if any) factory ballast do they come with, and in what configuration? In what locations do they come setup for plug-and-play additional sacks (just the back lockers, or also the front?

I've had an 08 Malibu 23LSV for years and love it. Which Axis series (A/T) do you think has a more similar wake to that? Also, I've never used the manual wedges - how do those compare wake-wise to the power ones?

Finally, where should I be looking to get this kind of info across other manufacturers? It seems like the Wakeboarding Mag "boat buyers guide" omits ballast specs altogether, which I find hard to believe. And while I'm sure most manufacturer sites have the info listed somewhere, at least in Axis's case I haven't been able to find it yet (the boat configurator tool only seems to let you change appearances, not functional options?).

900 lbs factory, as much as you want with PNP- you or your dealer installs the bag. The back takes up to 1100lbs, under bow about 650.

I just rode a 2018 A24 yesterday. The wake was great - so far, it's the closest thing to a G wake, that I've experienced. I wonder if the A22 would get a similar result?

The a24 was just re designed in 2018 with a new hull. The a22 is older technology. The Moomba max puts out a great wave, same with the r23.

I watched the video on the 2018 a24. They said it was 5 inches longer, but didn't really say too much other than there was more room in the bow. You seen anything that would indicate the hull would produce any different of a wake or wave?

If you have $70k to spend, you would have a hard time finding anything cleaner with less hours and loaded than the previous Wakeworld Boat Dave is selling.

In my opinion it is one of the cleanest used boats for sale.

I'd look into the Supreme S238 or S211

Selling a 2017 T23 fully loaded with the 410 engine and trailer for around $70k. 180hours. 4yr warranty left.

I would not do the VTX.

I would go with a Tige R21 over the Axis every day of the week. You can get a brand new 2018 R21 for around $70K reasonably equipped.
