2013 New Surf Systems Thread
This is a great thread to follow for wakesurfers out there...
New manufacturers innovative developments for wake surfing in 2013.. http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=796538 |

Haven't heard from Supra or Centurion on 2013 enhancements

Nautique def has the clean look going on their setup! That tige contraption is an eyesore imo
|
What everyone should focus on is the waves each one produces. After all that's what you surf on.
|
I agree on the Tige.. Not to mention some dock rash damage eventually.
Here's Tige's explanation of how it works... They never mention or show a Goofy Side.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxmpSlBjA9w |

They all look to try and do the same thing, extend the running length of the hull!
|
I like all of these. I wonder how long before a boat manufacture makes one of these (Nautique) stop the boat faster like those new jet ski's. Boat brakes.
|
I think the NSS is pretty cool looking, looks more refined than the malibu system, but that is just impression of looks. I do like that the tige and nautique system are both under the water line. I know with our Z3, you never see the Convex VX unless on the trailer or on the lift. You can kinda see it from the chase boat if you look real hard.
|
I think the Nautique and Malibu systems delay the intersection of the off side wake from the boat to clean up the surf wake... Looks like the Mastercraft system adds down force to the boat.... And the Tige system extends the LOA of the hull making it a longer hull.....
|
I would really like to know who came up with the system first... We all know Malibu released the Surfgate first, and a few months later Nautique released the NSS. The Surfgate just looks like they rushed it out to be the first to release the new innovation whereas Nautique's system is more refined. It may seem this way because Nautique took more time to refine it and make it "look better".
I haven't personally seen either in action other than videos, and have only physically seen Malibu's version. It just looks like a shadetree add-on someone had an idea on and tried. I guess the only thing that really matters is if it works or not, but for as much as boats cost these days I want items like this to look pleasing as well as work. I'm a Nautique person at heart, but Malibu makes a great looking boat that works. To me the Surfgate just ruins some of those great looks. |
Out of curiousity and this isn't a bashing statement, but does anyone have actual "non biased" (might be impossible) input on the Tige system? Am curious to know what that does to the running surface at higher speeds? It doesn't look like something you can just take off or slide out of the way so basically it's either there, or it's not. Being that the hulls were already pre designed for a particular running surface, what does extending that surface do during wakeboard and cruising speeds?

alot cheaper then a new boat..

Why use angled photos? One explanation only - visual effect for increase size of wake. So easy to put in vertical position and get tsunami
|
nope its for real buddy ,ive never seen a barrel behind the boat yet ,look at these piuctures and see how water is being plowed behind the boat..alot off power..maybe to big for u..

the switchblade go pretty much go on any boat.it cleans any wake up perfect..:)
|
its what ever u like ,im sure those new boats make really good wakes to.ive seen the video off chase on the tigi..wake looks good and easy to make the wake, the switchblade is for people that dont want to buy a new boat and want to make a big clean wake for about 3 or 4 grand.ive been happy thats for sure..
|
I LOVE my switchblade... that is all ;)
|
Anyone have a switchblade on a Sanger? great surf wave but it could always be bigger.
|
Haha James, come on, man. We get it, you've got a big wave. We've seen the same pictures a million times since you started riding it. But were 10 pictures really necessary? Bit of a hijack on a thread that was off to a good start.

Centurion's new Surf System, the FX-22.
|
Looks like the switchblade adds some serious down force to create the surf wake... Kinda looks like a Malibu wedge on steroids..
What is the technology that centurion is exhibiting this year? |
|
James,
No question your wake is sick, I trust Todd for Mendo and he said it was sick and I look forward to surfing it one day if you'll have me.....How is the Goofy side? |

With the switchblade, can you cruise the lake at 25-40mph IF you want to? It appears to always be in some sort of down position and cannot be fully retracted like a wedge in the case of Malibus. Also, the makers of switchblade also recommend you remove the blade if towing more than a couple miles...some people don't want to work to surf. Just putting out some of the possible "cons" to the switchblade since historically it is known that it works well on Centurions.
|
How far out do you the tabs extend on the NSS maybe 3ish"?? The slots in it look like they are about 1/4" slots.... Anyone locate or run across any dimensions of the actual tab yet?
|
Not sure how far they NSS tabs extend but I had a chance to ride behind the Nautique 230 last week. Stock ballast... the wave was sick!
Quick regular to goofy wake for transfers. The best part is that you can use the NSS to help adjust the shape and length of the wake. |
Partial Installation of Surf Tab on an 08 Xstar....
I still have two each plate stiffners to install... I'll keep you posted and the developments.. The tabs are 12X16.. Very difficult to install on the Xstar.. A lot of cutting and trimining the plates http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...pse228a7a6.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps6ae934be.jpg |
After 12 years of promoting wakesurfing - I love it that all the companies are get involved, its good for the industry. Cheers, to all !

Generation 2 MC surf tabs on 09 X-Star
|
Nice setup... I was concerned about the full retract position with the 12X9 tabs that you have.. Mine align true to hull extension in retract where your is slightly deflected into the slipstream... How do they work? I haven't tested mine yet..
|
Centurion has announced the 2014 FX44 (I know, my 2013 hasnt even arrived yet). Looks to be a big change. The ballast system is COMPLETELY PUMP AND BAG FREE. Apparently filling and draining via hard ballasts. Who knows what this will do to storage. Not enough details. See the announcement here:
http://www.centurioncrew.com/index.p...e-word-is-out/ |
According to the announcement, it will have more ballast than anything else available (which is around 4500 pounds for the 24 foot enzo sv244)
|
They work well. Parker at MC tells me they might affect the wakeboard wake a bit. We'll see. Only had 750 lb bag. Some hate on the X-Star surf wave, but I've had my best day ever behind a nicely loaded star.
|
I am guessing the new centurion system will be something close to this:

Anyone else having trouble getting the Centurion Link to open?

major issue with the switchblade or wedge on Malibu's is the drag and fuel consumption imo. Yes they help create a nice surf wave but they do it with drag on the back of the boat and therefore the gph has to go up as the powerplant has to work harder to keep speed. The benefits of the Tige and Natique are they can make a great surf wave without the drag.
At least on the Bu's the wedge can be retracted. A retro-fit of the switchblade would be fine if all you were doing is surfing or wakeboarding. That pretty much leaves slalom and cruising out. For some probably just fine but not for others. Since Malibu has the wedge and surfgate, I wonder how long it will take them to also add the convex attachment too and they can have everything bolted on to the back of the boat :D |
The plate stiffeners really stabilized these huge surf plates... We'll be water testing it this week....
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfae380e7.jpg |
Jager, what are the dimensions?
|
I made these adjustable for testing.. As shown they are 12 wide and 16 long... The Xstar has an unconventionally shaped transom so actuator mounting is difficult.. I wanted the tabs to retract out of the water slip stream when all the way up.. The 2nd gen pic looks like they still project down a bit in the water slip stream which defeats the purpose of the retracted side..
|
Interesting new Centurion systems... Ram Fill and CATS system..
