Help with parts for Tune Up / Filters - 06 Sanger V230

With the lakes hitting the brim this spring - I'm about to get some maintenance done on the boat.

2006 Sanger V230 (Black Scorpion) - 5.7L Mercruiser.

I'm going to change the oil, cap/plugs, and fuel filter.

I'm looking for part numbers or a parts diagram so I can pick everything up before I start.

For the fuel filter - I see a screw-on canister fuel/water separator on the port side rear of the engine - beneath the electric fuel pump - is there any other fuel filter? In-line?

Any advice on getting to the plugs? All reasonably easy to access?

What else?

Thanks-
D

I have an 03 v230 with the Black Scorpion. Parts should be the same.

Shaun -

Thanks. Where is the in-line fuel filter located? Didn't see it when I was in the boat yesterday.

The filter in underneath the fuel/water separator. Not to easy to get to. I can't even get my fuel/water separator off it is on so tight and no room to get a wrench on it.

Call your parts store...

Mercruiser dealer near me refused to share part numbers!! Insane, worst shop ever. I ended up ordering a maintenance manual from Mercruiser for the maintenance procedures and calling around to non-local mercruiser shops to get part numbers.

Inline fuel filter is on Port side right below the Ballast pump that is below the manifold. Plugs are not too bad, but a swivel and/of flex extension helps alot!

I've used the Mercury Marine parts catalog website in the past to find parts - https://webapps.brunswick.com/litera...atureSearch.do
I just tried it on my phone and the p/n lists aren't available for my s/n. I don't know if access has been removed or if they are having site problems, but it's worth a try.
Napa has p/n's for some things like oil filters.
Might try reaching out to Sanger. They've been helpful to me at times.
Lastly, do an internet search.

Get your engine serial number and do a quick internet search on mercruiser engine parts and you'll be good to go. There are a ton of resources online for mercruiser parts, but it helps to have the engine serial number to make sure your getting the right parts. If all else fails, call Ski Dim.

Distributor cap and rotor kit
805759Q-3 just remove the metal plate on bottom of rotor 3 small screws dispose of screws and plate
or
805759T1 and rotor 13524T12
Spark plugs are
AC Delco 41-993
Fuel/water separator
802893Q
Oil filter
866340Q02
The inline filter on the starboard stringer I use a napa 3481 fuel filter with 2 3/8 barb to flare brass fittings
OE part # for this filter is a 35-864572 but its a $55 filter. The 3481 is $15 + the two fittings but those are a one time charge as you will reuse them.

BTW a T in the part number means it is a mercury part only sold by mercury dealers. The Q is Quicksilver and is sold by everyone else I have never found the difference besides the color of the box.

shaunnelson13 04-11-2016 3:54 PM

Great info Brandon. Do you have the part number for spark plug wires and cheaper equivalent?

yubasanger 04-12-2016 9:16 AM

Part # for the wires is: 863656A03. I don't have a aftermarket part number.

Brandon - thank you - very much appreciated.

I had a brain fart supposed to say port stringer.

Looks like this will work. Looks like a great deal

I contacted Mercury customer service for clarification on some part numbers. They were responsive and quite helpful - but surprisingly told me they could not "recommend" the AC Delco plugs. When I told them the original plugs were CD Delco 41-932s, they said:
"Mercury Marine can only recommend the 8M2018369 or NGK ITR4A15"
Odd. I wonder if Mercury has an exclusive deal now with NGK - that prevents them from recommending AC Delco - even if they were OEM.

I'm looking to do this conversion. However, the threads on the Napa filter are 16x1.5mm. Any sources for this fitting??

yubasanger 04-27-2016 10:18 AM

If memory serves me right you are looking for a 3/8 inverted flare to 3/8 barb fitting. The seal on the filter is made on the flare and not the threads like NPT. Grab a filter from your autopars store and they should have a selection of brass fuel line fittings. Cant find the fittings in my records but try a dorman #43075. BTW the filter is from an early 90's chevy 1/2 ton with a 5.7L.

fish6942 04-28-2016 7:40 AM

The threads on that filter are 16x1.5mm. No one in town has anything close to what I need. I did find some options on-line for $10-15 apiece.

Thanks for the response.

I've heard that NGK makes the AC Delco plugs (at least in my case for my Chevy Tahoe), could be the situation with these too, in which case they could actually be the same plugs whether its AC Delco or NGK branded

A 16mm bolt has a Major diameter of .6299 to .6193. A 3/8 inverted flare is a 5/8 - 18 thread or a Major diameter of .6250 to .6149 so if the lathe cutting the thread on the fitting is not jacked .6250 is in the middle of .6299 and .6193. So essentially the diameters are the same. Now for the thread pitch a 1.5mm pitch is as close to 18 tpi as you can get so it will thread on. Finally both 16mm x 1.5 and 3/8 internal flare use a 45 degree taper so they are the same there. I have been using these filters since 2006 and never a leak or an issue. But you can do what you want just trying to save some guys money on here.

yubasanger 04-29-2016 9:35 PM

Just a heads up when your IAC valve fails and they a notorious for doing so, the valve is from a 2002 ford windstar with a 3.8L.

denverd1 06-01-2016 10:52 AM

getting 2 beeps per minute from guardian system. thinking its either low sea water pressure (impeller) or low fuel pressure (separator). you guys doing impeller as well?

Wet2Ward 06-01-2016 2:05 PM

Yep, doing Impeller every other season.

Cool thx

denverd1 06-13-2016 6:33 PM

Got impeller done and pump reinstalled.

Picked up a couple 3/8 barbed fittings. Inside diameter on the barb is about 1/4". Will this flow enough fuel?

denverd1 06-13-2016 7:16 PM

My other option is 3/8" coupler to a 3/8 with 1/2" barbed
