How to cast Downloaded shows with out Wifi

My son has a kindle fire with a bunch of shows downloaded from Amazon Prime.

Our lake place doesn't have Cable or Wifi and barely has a cell single. We are not going to add more monthly bills by adding cable or internet down at the lake place.

How can I cast his shows to the TV's without using wifi.

It looks like a fire stick needs to have Wifi to work (I could be wrong). And a google chrome won't work with Kindle fire and Amazon prime. At least I can't find away, I can get it to stream at home through the laptop but not the Kindle fire.

You can setup up a wifi access point without a connection to the internet. Not sure if that solves your problem, but a wifi network will allow devices attached to talk locally without an internet connection.

John is correct. Any cheap, ancient wifi-enabled router you have laying around will work. No need for it to actually have internet service attached - casting happens right on the local network.

Used one for $10:

That makes perfect sense.

Do you think there will be any problem with router not have power connected to it for a week or two while we are away. Like losing setting?

The router should hold it's setting while powered down.

Just put it behind a decent power strip or unplug it before you cut power to/from the place if that's what you do while away and it should be fine.

i use this to stream in my escalade TV's. small/portable and powered by the TV thru USB.

allows me to watch live TV thru my cable provider in my vehicle. As long as it's compatible with the device this will work great for what you need.

Does that have to have internet to work.

I bought a router and a fire stick to cast from my sons tablet. But after trying to set it up then calling amazon. You can not cast with a fire stick unless you have internet. I have WiFi but no internet.

So I’m just going to take the fire stick home and use it in the bed room to cast.

So back to square one.

Chromcast should work, you may just need to do an initial setup / update when you have a WAN connection. After that initial setup you should be able to cast to it.... the only hangup might be if there is an app for the kindle.

Same might go with the fire-stick. Do an initial setup, add it the cabin network without outside access and try and screen mirror.

They also sell a HDMI adapter for the kindle fire which allows you to hardwire things.

Ok I'll set up the fire-stick tonight at home and then just disconnect the internet and see if I can still get it to work.

Can't you download stuff to your fire stick?

jonblarc7 07-30-2018 8:15 AM

Not sure I just got it.

I called amazon while I was at the lake and all I got it the fire-stick won't work at all with out internet sorry. So I"m not sure.

I would rather leave the fire stick at the lake and take the tablet back and forth to download new shows while I'm at home.

Since you have a fire stick, google Terrarium TV ;)

jonblarc7 07-30-2018 11:43 AM

That looks fun!!!

jonblarc7 08-02-2018 5:37 AM

Yes.

I have a Chromecast to but the problem is the Chromecast is it won't cast Amazon Prime video's from anything but a laptop.

Not sure that will cast downloaded videos because of this part right here

sidekicknicholas 08-03-2018 8:33 AM

I don't think you can use chromecast in the traditional sense where the device acts as a "remote" to send media to the display, but I think you can do full screen mirroring. So when you queue up a movie or show the tablet kinda is unusable since its in screen mirror mode.

jonblarc7 08-03-2018 10:02 AM

Ok I'll give it a try. I wouldn't mind moving the Chormecast to the lake and using the fire stick at the main house.

I really like the fire stick now that I have one.

jonblarc7 08-04-2018 6:37 AM

Well back at the lake with fire stick and it’s a no go. I have the tablet and the stick on the same WiFi and it won’t give you the option to cast like it does at home with it connected to the internet. I’ll try and set up the Chromecast for next weekend.
