Sacked out the boat, woah!
 

I usually ride my 2007 Malibu 23lsv at 19.4mph with just the stock ballasts full (1250 LB) and it's been great to learn on (w2w, 1st inverts, 1st spins, etc). Well this last weekend I sacked it out for the first time (technically 2nd, but first was long time ago) with an extra 1,500 or so LB in the rear/center. So a total of somewhere between 2,500 - 3,000 LB and 2 people on the boat. I kicked up the speed to 21.6mph and all I can say is WOW! Everything was so effortless and even though I only went 1/2 as hard, I probably had my highest and most floaty airs ever. I couldn't get the confidence up to go past 1/2 effort (maybe next time!)

It definitely put a huge smile on my face. But I absolutely cannot imagine learning new things like this. The falls would be BRUTAL.

Do you guys remember the feeling when you rode a sacked out wake for the first time?

How much weight do you guys usually like to ride with?

Not quite on the same level but I remember in my 01 vlx (family boat) when I threw bags in the rear for the first time. It truly felt like the wake size doubled. Like you said, effortless and so much more fun. Just plumbed in 850's in the rear and a new 580 in the center, so we ride with about 2k in ballast normally. Still boots plenty enough for me, until I get something newer haha.

21.6 seems slow even with just the stock ballast IMO

Not in a Malibu. They stay clean.

I have rode many wakes. The faster you go, the more firm it gets. Add weight and it gets bigger. My sweet spot is 22.5 - 23. I am a bigger guy and have felt slicing through a wake at slower speeds. It isn't fun.

5000 lbs in a Nauti SAN 230. 9.5 mph. Goofy side. So sick! Oh wait... are we talking about wakeboarding??? Does anyone do that any more?

In my 02 SAN 210, I run about 2500lb's + 4-6 people normally. Most of the riders who come with me ride 70-75ft at 23.5-24.2mph, while some ride at 80ft at 24.5mph. My normal set up is 26.7mph at 90ft.

Are you sure that you're speed controller is calibrated correctly? 19.4 is pretty slow.

I am positive about the speeds. My speed controller is actually off like 2mph (says I'm at 17.6) and I have used GPS to confirm my exact speed. It's 19.4mph & 65ft.

I slowed the speed down by a bit a year ago to practice inverts and then I just never sped it back up. The falls are so much less brutal. My first year of wakeboarding I had 2 rib injuries and a torn pec. In the last year I've had nothing. Is it because the falls are less brutal at that speed? Is it just dumb luck? Have I just gotten better? I dunno. But I've been really reluctant to get injured again.

At this speed I can still get into the flats when I want to, but I guess I probably have to work for it alot harder on all my tricks. I've been thinking about speeding things up lately, just so I get less tired back there. But other than that, any reason to speed it up? What speed would you guys recommend to try out for a malibu 23lsv on stock ballasts?

we ride with about 6300 pounds of ballast + a 6000 pound boat - fun stuff.

I totally remember my first time on a sacked boat. I was trying to learn a backroll behind an unweighted 92 ski nautique and was ready to give up and go get a lesson after at least 200 failed landings. Some guys with an older 80's nautique with sacks invited me to try behind their boat and I landed 3 rolls in a row. Totally love riding behind a boat with a big weight/wake. I ride behind the G23 at OWC, 3/4 ballast @ 23mph. Awesome boat and best wake ever!

My buddy just upgraded boats from a bayliner to an 04 23 lsv (my version or riding a sacked out boat). couldn't land backrolls consistently on the old one, landed 4 in a row last weekend with the BU. PITA to drive that thing tho
