Prop Repair - Oregon

Hey Guys,

I'm located about 1.5hr south of the Portland Area and looking for a place to get a prop repaired.

Thanks in advance.

There are several places up here in PDX. Otherwise maybe just go to any local dealer. They usually have a program to send them in for repair and get it back to you a week later.

Rocky at Independent Marine Propeller is the best in Portland. They will have your prop looking brand new.

I have a prop for $350, good as new, if you're looking for an extra

Im saving about $50 each time I send it in myself. went through 3 last year..... don't go exploring in an inboard

I've had Sheffield Marine on Marine drive repair two props. They both make noise (squeek) while underway now... not cool. I tolerated it all last season, but need to get them fixed elsewhere because the squeeking is no bueno

squeek and prop don't sound like they should be related...?

Maybe the 'squeak' he's talking about is prop-sing, which would be high pitched whine/whistle. If the prop shop left the back of your prop blades sharpened to a point, you'll almost surely get that at idle speeds, and usually goes away as speed increases. I had one prop come back from a repair that way and had to file the back edges square to get rid of the sing, so I've quit using that shop. It came back perfect from the next shop I used (propmd).

But yea, if you truly have a squeak, I wouldn't be necessarily looking at the prop.

Up here in seattle it was the same price from bakes as sending it in directly I think it was 200 bucks.

Tom, you are exactly right. It is prop-sing. I had the shaft and packing inspected and both are perfect. I knew that I hadnt damaged it, but wanted to be sure. The singing does go away just after idle speed. Thanks for the tip on squaring up the backs of the blades - I hadnt heard this and will definitely try it.

I've used Sheffield for years and never had an issue. In Fact I've had them fix props from independent that had major issues after being "repaired".
FYI the dealer is going to pin $50 (plus or minus) to the repair price.

I used acme prop repair in clackamas. They did good work on my 537. Btw I also have a 1235 for sale or trade for a another 537, it was too aggressive for what I need.

Vinny, do you mean Ampro? I used them when they were right across the street from the old Wakeside.com warehouse. They did good work too. They off of Hwy 212 which is convenient if you are in that area.

What are you asking for the 1235?

BlazeSr 01-31-2016 8:55 PM

I dropped two off at Sheffield last week. $145 a piece + 10% off for bringing in two. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I called acme direct and they recommended them.
