LED Wire
 

First, I have some left over 12g wire left over from a ballast project last year. I was planning on purchasing some 14g for the LEDs, but thought about using the 12g.

I'm putting it two Abyss Mini Starfish. They are rated at 2.6A each. The directions call for 4a circuit protection.

Any disadvantage of going with going with heavier wire?

Second question, for inside the boat, for speaker LEDs or cup holder LEDs, 16 or 18?
Guess i need to decide exactly what lights first?

No disadvantage other than the larger size. The 12 gauge will be perfect.

For in boat speaker ring LEDs, the 18 will be fine.

12ga is more than enough to support a pair of underwater LEDs. No disadvantage to using a larger ga wire.

2nd question would depend on the total current draw and length of the wire run.

For 12g wire, I thought that would be a MAX of 18.6A - which is more than enough for 2 Abyss Lights.

The spec for each underwater light are 33 watts (13 volts @ 2.6A).
The directions suggest using a 4 amp fuse.

Since there will be 2 lights on one switch, I assume the fuse between the dash and the switch would be doubled (8 amp) for two lights and the total draw?
