Center windshield broke any other options
Is the only option for getting a new walkthrough windshield for my 2006 supra 24V the dealership? Went to put the rubber stub back on that keeps It from breaking the port windshield when it's open. I didn't notice the second section of rubber laying on the floor that keeps the screw from going to deep. Cranked the screw down and boom the glass was in a thousand pieces. I have to buy the whole door and the glass and they want $500 and something for it.
I also I found a guy with a 06 21V that has the door and glass for sale but I don't know if it will work for me. |
I'm not familiar with that boat, and it's hard to tell by pictures of it. Is that part of the glass flat? Should be able to go to any glass shop and have a piece cut.

I wish it was flat but its got a slight bow to it.

How about lexan or plexi

I powder coated my windshield frame on my 07 20ssv supra and all the framework comes apart. you will have to drill out a couple of rivits and have a piece of glass cut and tempered but it should cost way less than buying the whole window. A good glass shop should be able to set ya up. The glass was flat and as you slid it down the door it would flex into position. This was on mine though.
|
So it would flex and not break?????
|
do any of you think a 21v and 24v door could be the same door.

Look on the glass and see who the manufacturer is. Call them directly. I have purchased a glass windshield for a Malibu and it was very cheap going through the manufacturer and they shipped it directly to me. I believe TaylorMade Glass is one of them. The one I had was out of Canada, but I don't remember the name off hand....
|
I replaced my glass with lexan.. lowes will cut it to size..
|
I replaced mine with plexi and it has worked fine for 5 years now.
|
I'm going to see if I can read the number off the window for TaylorMade and give them a call. If that doesn't work I got a buddy that's got a 21v and I'll see if his will fit mine, if it does I'll buy the whole thing from a guy on the supra forum. If that doesn't work it's on to plexi or something
|
Not sure where your located but check with your local glass shop. I get a handful of these per year and am able to do half of em with tempered flat glass that is just thin enough to flex a bit
|
+1 on replacing the glass with plexi. A lot more durable and a little more light weight.

Just want to answer what fixed it so if somebody has the same problem and searches they can find this thread.
Big thanks to Jason J-Bob they were spot on. It took me a few weeks to finally stop by the local glass shop. But for only 22$ !!!!!!!!! They ordered me a 18-3/4 x 22-5/8 piece of 1/8 thick tempered glass. I put bead of clear silicon in the sides and it bent right in to place. |
Wow, cool.
I broke the center glass on our '08 X-Star. Luckily it was flat. A local shop did it for around $100. Factory glass had a blue tint, but it was hardly noticeable with the clear glass. |
Glad it worked out for ya dude

Tempered glass doesn't bend does it? I just broke the metal frame in my old 22 SSV going through super rough water and the glass did not break (thank god). The only problem is that now I have to put this mess back together. I was thinking about getting something matched up for redundancy before I put it back in. What exactly did you get again?
|
1/8" thick tempered glass cut too the size of my frame. It will flex just enough to fit in the bend of my supra24v center walk-through frame.
