Mud Flaps
Hey guys...we are taking the boat on a long trip this weekend. We are needing something to keep the rocks and tar down. We used to have a pair of mudflaps for an old tow vehical, but they are long gone. Would ya'll mind posting what you have to give me some ideas? I think I'm going to call around to all the local RV dealerships and see what they have. Thanks in advance!!

Do you have to have some special connector? Looks like it fits into something on the tongue, mine doesn't have a place to fit in....thought?

Mud Flaps
You can get the same mud flaps at Costco's web site under auto/truck accessories and they will ship it for free. What you do have to have is about 1" free space between the back of the bumper towards the ball as the unit slides onto the sleeve your ball is screwed into. If you don't have 1" it's an easy fix just buy a longer sleeve and attach the ball. Also once you get the unit installed all I do to take the flaps off is unscrew the mudflaps where they swivel at the hitch and leave the collar intact. You can also see a better picture of the set on mudflaps.com.

This is what I made. Bought the aluminum bar from the Depot . Just use a U bolt around the hitch itself to attach. I also added some heavy steel to the bottoms so they don't flap so much in the wind.

We did something similiar. We made our mud towing flaps as well. Fencing top post with Tractor trailer mud flaps and U bolts around the hitch. Cost about 15 bucks to make.

Iron bull bumpers used to make some sick ones, but i just looked on their site and couldnt seem to find them.
Ironbullbumpers.com Guys name is bill if you wanna see if he can still get you a set, real cool guy and big on the powerstroke.org forum. |
Thanks guys...I like those rock tamers but it looks like I'll have to wait till I get back.Couldn't get them shipped in time. I check all the RV shops but they have to order them as well. I've also seen some sort of air dam type thing that is attached to the trailer. Anybody know where to get those?

There's this site that they call google, you can dang near find anything if you type a word in.
http://www.trailer-rockguard.com/ Sorry, had too. Just look. |
I'm sure that works but, it looks stupid.
|
MMC also check your local 4x4 shops they sometimes carry the Rock Tamers
|
I didn't even think of 4x4 shops. I'll run by there on the way outta town. Thanks Jarod!

Make sure ya got tools with ya, gotta put them together and it's kind of a pain.

Plus one for the Rock Tamers. Among the numerous reasons they work for me, they attach to the removable ball hitch, so all I do is take off the entire hitch when I'm not trailering and put in it the garage. Awesome product.

Same here Brett, I place the entire assembly on a pair of jackstands.
