Again....Wakeboarding not surfing

Just picked up a new A22 and was wondering what other Wakeboarders are doing for weight. Currently I'm running this:

Factory hard tanks, 2 rear tanks plus center / forward tank. I think the total here is about 900 pounds.
Plug N Play: 750 sacks on both sides of the motor, and the 500 custom sack under the front seats.
600 in lead in the very front of the walk through (in front of the wind break)
Wedge

Good news is the wake is unbelievable. Great shape. A lot like the MXZ but a little more lippy/vert. And maybe a little bigger. The wake is also wider than the MXZ in my opinion.

The bad news is that we're running a F-ton of weight. So I'm wondering if anyone else has figured out a more practical set up or better balance to maximize the wake without all of this weight. I would sacrifice a little wake size if I could keep the awesome shape and gain better fuel efficiency.

Also......I have the 350 motor with the new 1:1 transmission with the 2419 prop. The boat is a tractor! The smaller motor is no longer an issue for those that want big wakes.

There is no replacement for displacement. If you want to tone it down then trade out the 750s for 400s, ditch the lead and swap the prop out for an Acme 1235. This setup worked really well on a Gen I A22, I imagine it would work well on newer ones. Although it will absolutely be a somewhat smaller wake. Still great though!

Most people are running stock + plug n play with similar size rear ballast bags. Same setup as you, just minus the lead. The bow weight really helps, but you can probably tone it down to 200lbs and then drain the rear by 25% or so.

Do your friends not pay for gas? I have an A20 weighted similarly and find that $20/person covers gas money pretty well. Just be glad you don't have a G23!

I'm on my 2nd Axis (2011 A22 and now 2014 A24). You're doing the right thing by adding the extra weight up front because Axis boats do better with the extra 400-650 in the bow as it really adds volume to the wake and firms it up for extra boost and like you said, it is lippy. 3400lbs of ballast is not a lot of weight for this boat. I've seen and I've done 4500-5000lbs for giggles before (totally unnecessary but just had the extra sacks to play with). If you want to reduce weight just reduce it equally in all areas of your boat to keep it balanced as you have it now.

On my 12' a22. I run factory 900. The pnp 950 bow bag and 600's in the rear. I also run the sumo 800 flat sac on the floor with another sumo 450 bag on top of that. That's a great setup and the wake is perfect.

My heaviest setup was factory 900, 950 bow sack. 900's in the rear. Two 600's on the floor and 200lbs of lead Under the back seats.

I don't run wedge so that's why I don't add bow weight more than the axis bow bag. I have the ls3 and 1235 prop but may be upgrading to the 2315 soon.

Thanks guys. As stated above the bow weight is a must. Prior to adding the lead to the bow, the boat was stern heavy, and the wake was super wide and soft.

I agree there is no substitute for weight, but I was wondering if there was a way to keep the awesome shape that I have now, while giving up a little wake size.

My friends all chip in. As far as I know, Trevor Maur and Randall Harris are the only other guys running a 2015 on the Delta, and as you would expect, their boats are slammed to the max also.

The 2419 is the most aggressive prop out of the 15x12's and should pull anything you throw at it with the new gear ratio. What's your top speed? Your rpms have to be pretty high at wakeboarding speeds, so you could always get a less aggressive prop (2313, 1235, 2249). Depending on your crew size, you should still be able to handle all that weight and save some gas money.

It's not the same boat and the axis may weigh more. But I have the 350 in my 23LSV and it planes 5k off with the 2315 prop.

I have an 2015 Axis A22. The best set up I have found is. Stock plus plug n play full 750s in the back. 200lbs lead in front. Then a 750lb sac in the walk way 3/4 full. No wedge. Pull at 23.8 and we ride at 75. With a crew of 4 or 5.

We cruise out to the riding spot at 4K rpms and about 23-25 mph. Definitely not ideal.

While wakeboarding, we're hovering between 4100 and 4300.

The wakeboarding rpms are pretty consistent with what I have seen in the past from my other boats. The cruising rpms however are clearly high considering our speed.

I am feeling like I over propped the boat. But I'm wondering also if what I am burning in gas on the way out to the riding spot is being made up for while we wakeboard. Meaning......we're very inefficient while cruising, but very efficient while wakeboarding and pulling 3500-4000 pounds out of the hole for 4 hours.

I have a vapor blue and white 15 a22 and had a 10 a22 also. I had the 400 HP motor in my old boat and 350 in this boat. I am running an OJ 945 (15x13) and notice no difference out of the hole with the smaller motor. Im basically at the same RPM's as you wakeboarding but cruising to the ride spot im at 28-30 at 4k RPM's. I had an acme 1235 on the boat originally and it didn't get on plane as fast as the 945 and the RPM's were pretty close to the same.

I run 600's + wedge + bow bag + 1 person in the bow 22.5.

I think we're sticking with our current set up. While the 2419 prop suffers on speed while cruising, the boat is very efficient for wakeboarding with a lot of weight. We're averaging about 4 gallons for a normal length set with a lot of weight.

Steve they are all similar. I still think the old 8.1 litre X-star is about the nastiest wake ever, only because of the motor. That boat took all of the weight that we threw at it.

As far as the MXZ vs A22..... They're nearly identical. I think the A22 wake is slightly steeper and lippier, but it is also a little wider. We couldn't be happier. With the exception of a very poorly thought out cooler solution in the new A22 (like someone should be fired), I'm not missing the MXZs.

Stock 900 + wedge
PnP 1100 in back corners
750 sumo IBS

Boat planes nicely runs about 4600 getting out of the hole

Wakeboarding speed 22.8- 23.4 boat runs about 4k-4200

Couldn't be happier with the boat and the wake.
